OhioScubaGirl Posted March 8, 2020 #1 Share Posted March 8, 2020 I have seen one or two reports of ships not stopping at Grand Cayman. I am trying to get factual information about this. Can anyone tell me what has been happening? Was this an isolated incident? Grand Cayman is a must do for us so we are trying to weigh options. lifes-a-beach Posted March 9, 2020 #2 Share Posted March 9, 2020 Don’t see anything here https://www.caymancompass.com And i I haven’t heard anything. Of course that could change. Grand Cayman doesn’t need cruise revenue and many residents don’t even like the cruise industry so no telling what might happen in the future. bookbabe Posted March 9, 2020 #3 Share Posted March 9, 2020 One MSC ship was turned away, is what I saw in the news, due to a crew member who was sick with flu-like symptoms. Same ship was also turned away from another port the day before. https://www.caymancompass.com/2020/02/26/updated-cayman-turns-away-cruise-ship-amid-coronavirus-concerns/ Considering there’s 2-6 ships a day, I’d say it’s an isolated incident. You should be fine unless your ship has illness on board when you get there, and if you do you’ve got bigger issues than missing a port...

We would be hearing more about it if it were several ships. Having someone (even one person) sick on board is concerning me right now.
TravellingBritNY Posted March 9, 2020 #5 Share Posted March 9, 2020 There was a backlash too: https://www.sun-sentinel.com/business/fl-bz-carnival-avoiding-jamaica-and-caymans-over-virus-fears-20200303-43f7wm3nsvak3e7wkoxks55ium-story.html
bookbabe Posted March 9, 2020 #6 Share Posted March 9, 2020 The backlash was resolved within a couple days and Carnival ships have been stopping in Cayman since then. Only two ships had their routes changed to miss Cayman.
OhioScubaGirl Posted March 10, 2020 Author #7 Share Posted March 10, 2020 Has anyone heard anything about Carnival changing upcoming itineraries from Grand Cayman to a different port? Their website still lists Grand Cayman but some people are reporting hearing about changes. (can't find anything official, just rumblings)
