whisker2193 Posted March 20, 2020 #26 Share Posted March 20, 2020 I, too, was on this sailing. From what I've read, the test likely did not get a positive result until Friday or Saturday of that week. However, there had to be a high index of suspicion about what was causing this passenger's illness. That index of suspicion should have been shared with the passengers. I think a lot of them would have behaved differently in subsequent days regarding self-quarantining. I think it was negligent of them not to share the information. Before y'all go nuts about Hipaa rules, I'm not suggesting anyone be named, just share the index of suspicion. Other ships were in quarantine for the same suspicions. Jamaica, Grand Cayman and Cozumel should have been notified as well and they clearly were not as we were able to disembark and spread out among their fine people at each place. . zippydo1 Posted March 20, 2020 Author #27 Share Posted March 20, 2020 I agree Whisker2193. What bothered me was that they kept the arcade games open. When we walked by lots of kids were in there playing air hockey basketball etc. they didn’t let them use the mini golf or basket court for health reasons so we were told. If they were really interested in our health the casino and arcade would have been closed as well. A warning maybe. On our FB group it’s been reported that children are among the positives. More have since been tested positive since the initial report. I realize this was a fluid situation but their total lack of communication was negligent.
cruisinmeme Posted March 20, 2020 #28 Share Posted March 20, 2020 Absolutely NCL dropped that ball. It certainly may of changed your behavior once home. We got off the Getaway Sunday where i watched lots of coughing by passengers and staff. We have done self quarantine, not seen our kids nor grandkids. So many of the passengers on our cruise spent time in New Orleans pre cruise. Well New Orleans has 400 cases alone!!!! This week has been trying waiting to see if we got exposed to anything other than the constant coughing we saw. Other than coughing my lungs up since we got home we are fine so far. The one memo the passengers and crew didnt get was cover your cough, but not with your hand. If you are crew who wants to be served after you coughed in your hand. As grown men coughing and not covering their nasty mouth. 4 hours ago, whisker2193 said: I, too, was on this sailing. ourfamilylovescruising Posted March 21, 2020 #29 Share Posted March 21, 2020 did anyone who was on this ship get sick? since you have been home? I have a hard time believing that this person was sick and ports allowed them in? Cruise lines have taken the biggest hit and is sucks not right now for everyone. I just don't believe everything I hear right off the bat, if more people get sick from this ship then maybe but is sounds like just walking around New Orleans could be the problem. I have been couching and blowing my nose for a couple of weeks ( because of allergies)
zippydo1 Posted March 21, 2020 Author #30 Share Posted March 21, 2020 Yes this was reported on the Orlando News. Since then a few more cruisers have tested positive. Others are waiting for results. Two different entertainment staff have tweeted being quarantined on the ship after the passengers got off last Saturday. Although they were able to debark in Nassau. thekingbee Posted March 22, 2020 #31 Share Posted March 22, 2020 zippydo1, I have a few questions but have no idea how to PM you so posting this instead. My wife and I were on this cruise. My son, his wife and our 2 grandchildren were in the adjoining mini-suite. We're all self quarantining now. Your posts contain information that I did not have but would like to know so we can stay informed. One of your posts stated: "On our FB group it’s been reported that children are among the positives. Another of your posts stated: "Since then a few more cruisers have tested positive. Others are waiting for results. Thanks so much for your help. I've been feeling very anxious since we got the email and even more anxious since developing cold symptoms.

I don’t understand how we were able to port at Jamaica or Grand Cayman after what happened to the MSC ship. Cozumel required testing before they allowed the MSC passengers to go ashore. Any flu like symptoms should have raised red flags in this pandemic. We should have been informed. If this wasn’t on the news first, would we have been notified? If she was seriously ill on day 2 of the cruise, I would guess she had symptoms before that, since they show up betwee 2 and 14 days, why didn't she let the cruise line know and not board the ship. I say this, because it drives me crazy that people knowing know they are sick still board the ship and pass it to others. Rare mking8288 Posted March 22, 2020 #33 Share Posted March 22, 2020 (edited) What is troublesome, as that here in the U.S. - that we are not longer effective in tracking infected carriers via contact tracing (other countries activated their supercomputer networks as well as personnel to identify, isolate and quarantine ... we are way behind & missed those curves entirely) with cruise ship passengers, possibly infected as well as these "known" infections - leaving several cruise ships that disembarked earlier this month. It is really, IMHO, uneven infection control practices, in what we do - while other cruise ship passengers (and crew) are still floating, limping in the middle of the Pacific - in the case of the Jewel, by Honolulu port officials in charge (it doesn't matter whether that is a decision at the state level or federal level (USCG or Homeland Security/CBP). Brace for an explosion of cases out there as these passengers went onward & returning to their home states (for those on the sailing - are there much, if any, foreign passengers or those that came from abroad on the affected cruises ?? - in the coming days. If we don't see a sudden spike in the next week or two, then we got lucky & avoided the worst case scenerio. Despite what is being reported in the news, medical professionals - not elected officials - are still unable to test everyone that needs & should be tested, reserving the limited test kits ... (Google the news on that ... no need for me to cite/link those sources, it is widely available.) It is sad if the passengers unknowingly acted as ninja virus carriers and passed it to others onboard but absolutely irresponsible had they knew or even suspected of being infected and went ahead to embark on a sailing. They are not excepting new members since the cruise is done. 9 people say they have been tested. 2 negative 2 positive. One is a father who’s family is sick but his temp was 104 and got the test. He posted that they all had it. Someone also shared two separate tweets from crew concerning the staff quarantine. From what I understand the woman taken to the hospital in Jamaica was flown to Florida on Friday the13 and tested there. The results were probably not in before they let us off the ship on Saturday.
