LLSullie Posted February 8, 2006 #1 Share Posted February 8, 2006 RCCI Rule right from their website. Can unaccompanied minors cruise? Adults who are not the parent or Legal Guardian of any minor child traveling with them are required to present the child's valid passport and visa (if required) or the child's birth certificate (original, a notarized copy or a certified copy) and an original notarized letter signed by at least one of the child's parents. The notarized letter from the child's parent must authorize the traveling adult to take the child on the specific cruise and must authorize the traveling adult to supervise the child and permit any medical treatment that must be administered to the child. Effective July 1, 2005 guests under the age of 21 must be booked in a stateroom with an adult who is 21 years or older. A parent or legal guardian must accompany guests under the age of 18 and must be booked in the same or adjacent stateroom. Acceptable proof will be required. These restrictions may be waived at our discretion where applicable. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx I am traveling with an 18 yr old that isn't mine. Do I need a parent letter or not? I've received 3 different answers from customer service ... :(
Sheffie Posted February 8, 2006 #2 Share Posted February 8, 2006 1. Adults who are not the parent or Legal Guardian of any minor child traveling with them. He is not a minor child. 2. A parent or legal guardian must accompany guests under the age of 18. He is not under 18. I see no problem. If you are still worried, then just have his parents sign and notarize something saying he can go with you.

Unfortunately a letter from his parents is not possible. I'm going to wing it. I'll print this off of their site. They can try to keep me off this cruise ;) I'm sure we'll be fine
sherry7 Posted February 8, 2006 #4 Share Posted February 8, 2006 This is my understanding on it.... He's 18, so you don't need permission from his parents to take him along. However, if he wants to drink or gamble (okay on RCCL at age 18), he does need permission for that. Not sure if that permission needs to come from you or the parents. LLSullie Posted February 8, 2006 Author #5 Share Posted February 8, 2006 I will be the only one partaking in non-virgin beverages on this trip ;)
apfra. Posted February 8, 2006 #6 Share Posted February 8, 2006 He is 18 years old, and therefore is not a minor. His parents have no legal authority or control over him whatsoever. An authorization from his parents means absolutely nothing!
Merion_Mom Posted February 8, 2006 #7 Share Posted February 8, 2006 If he wants to drink beer and wine on this trip, YOU will have to sign the authorization, making YOU responsible and liable for his behavior. :)
Laurie12820 Posted February 8, 2006 #8 Share Posted February 8, 2006 Back in 2001 I cruised when I was 18, and I was not with my parents. I could not go on the cruise though alone. I had to be booked with someone 21 or older. HTH!
denred04 Posted February 8, 2006 #9 Share Posted February 8, 2006 18 is NOT a minor child. It just states that under 21 must be in a cabin with an adult (didn't say guardian/parent) I would think you'll be fine. have fun!
surfklutz Posted February 8, 2006 #10 Share Posted February 8, 2006 Just an interesting side note to this discussion. Is everyone aware that for a child of a joint custodial divorced couple to cruise - they have to have written permission from the parent who is not cruising with the child. LLSullie Posted February 9, 2006 Author #11 Share Posted February 9, 2006 RCCL page says if the child is under 14 you need permission. Also if the child has a passport, the traveling parent would have had permission from the non custodial parent to get the passport
