A look at the SS United States......

Thanks for posting this video. Excellent slow, steady aerial shots.  I didn't know that for a period of time, NCL owned the ship with the intention of refurbishing her and using her for their Hawaiian island cruises.

Thank you, she has been in Philadelphia since 2009

Yeah, I'm amazed she is still moored there and has avoided being scrapped. If the choice was being scrapped or being sunk as an artificial reef, I would hope for the latter. Maybe sink her off of NYC since that was her home port? I think it remains cost prohibitive to refurbish the ship and return her to service (or even use as a hotel or whatever at a dock in some waterfront city).

I attended Texas Maritime Academy and our original training ship, Texas Clipper, was sunk in the Gulf of Mexico off of the coast of south Texas and is now an artificial reef for the fishies and scuba divers. At least she stayed in Texas waters and wasn't scrapped.

It's ridicules the amount of money people have donated to keep her afloat, then again its their money. $60,000.00 a month....Almost 8M in the last 11 years for docking, insurance etc...Every once in a while they have a grand plan they come out with. https://www.ssusc.org

Just make a nice reef to dive on and be done with it
