Food was good, the wraparound promenade and the artwork in the common areas were nice touches, and I enjoyed the sedate atmosphere. The BBC presentation on the Main Stage and Billboard Onboard were fun. BB King lounge and the casino were too small and crowded, so we didn't stay long there. Crew was friendly and generally attentive, though you could tell most weren't experienced. Tendering to shore in Sitka took an hour and a half, which delayed the start of our shore excursion. (Hence my comment "for the most part, everything was on schedule" - this was the one exception.) I'll give you an update when I get back on how things went or during. We'll see how things go👍. Thanks again for everything you shared. The kit I'll take is the 16-35, 24-105 and the 70-200, with my 2x extender. I'll miss my RF 28-70 and my RF 85mm f1.2, but this is a different kind of trip. Lol That's still way more gear than I carry. I bought a big camera backpack to give myself room to expand, and instead I get stuck carrying around my wife's stuff. We finally got to go on our Alaska cruise a couple weeks ago (Eurodam roundtrip from Seattle). Due to time and financial constraints, I ended up not renting the 100-400 mm lens as I originally planned, but my 24-105 was good enough most of the time. Taking my new RF 100-400 to Alaska on Wednesday. Hoping it does the trick. I'll also have my Tamron 150-600 and my RF 24-240. tallgirl97 Posted June 16, 2022 #30 Share Posted June 16, 2022 Great thread - I’ve enjoyed reading everyone’s plans for what to carry. We all have different criteria and everyone’s situation is unique. I use a crop sensor and think I’ve decided against renting a 100-400 as I’d originally planned and will instead bring my 70-300. I also shoot video on a Sony RX7 and I just don’t think I can reasonably carry a big lens and the video kit comfortably. 300mm will give me some decent reach and still be small enough to wear with a neck strap. I hope folks come back after their trips to share a few of their favourite shots.

We’re heading up to AK next week and I hope we’re lucky enough to get the same quality (due to our own failures, not the gear). We’re bringing the new R7 (no full frames sensor for us) with the 18-150 kit lens and the 100-400 f/5.6-8. I hope we can keep it steady (though both the body and lens have IBIS, which ought to help). Loved reading this thread.

Whinenowine Posted August 29, 2022 #36 Share Posted August 29, 2022 The trip was great! Lots of rain, but what's new. Only shot 4,000 photos (which is actually lite for us), but we're still going through them to weed out the bad ones. The R7 did well....my biggest complaint was with the kit lease...I really wish it went to 200 rather than just 150.

I found myself wishing that I had a longer focal length than 400mm. Lol. I just posted my Alaska gallery link on my photography page. I reduced it down to 195 pictures. byargertx Posted April 24, 2023 #38 Share Posted April 24, 2023 Jjwarrin - last trip to Alaska I shot about 2,500 pics. This trip in June I hope to have a great shooting experience, besides the cruise spending three days at Denali. BTW, I see you are in Findlay. I was born and raised in Lima. Been living in Texas for many years now.
