newlu Posted February 15, 2006 #1 Share Posted February 15, 2006 Hi, Am booked on the Mariner, balcony stateroom E1, I can upgrade to an balcony stateroom D1 (to get a sofabed for my son) and be on the hump, 9th floor, or I can upgrade to a JS, mid-ship, 9th floor. I would prefer a bigger bathroom and bigger balcony, is the JS worth the extra money? Thanks so much, 1st time cruisers, want to be comfortable.. newlu
crusinKimmie Posted February 15, 2006 #2 Share Posted February 15, 2006 We were in a JS last year on Voyager and loved it. The closet is huge, bathroom was great - room is very comfortable moving around. There is a sofa bed in this suite for your son. I don't remember feeling that the balcony was any larger however. May want to check that out. I think you just have to evaluate how much time you spend in the room, what your budget is comfortable with. Will it prevent you from doing other things like excursions, etc? If yes, I would go for the smaller room and enjoy the extras.
natesfirewife Posted February 15, 2006 #3 Share Posted February 15, 2006 The JS have a window next to the slider so the balcony might be a bit larger. We like the corner Aft JS's as they are larger. :)
cb at sea Posted February 15, 2006 #4 Share Posted February 15, 2006 The bath is definitely more roomy in a JS than a regular cabin, as is the closet. If you want more room and that is important to you, then it's worth the $$$$! The balconies are wider because the cabin is wider.
BobBeaSea Posted February 15, 2006 #5 Share Posted February 15, 2006 In addition to the extra space (about 90 sq ft) you get a larger bathroom with a tub, a nice big walk-in closet, slightly larger balcony etc. You will also get C&A credit for two cruises and priority embarkation...depending on the port. All in all, not bad.
newlu Posted February 15, 2006 Author #6 Share Posted February 15, 2006 Thanks everyone, I am seriously thinking of upgrading to the JS, just for bathroom and balcony. Just how small is a bathroom in a regular balcony, do you just walk in and jump in the shower? Thanks newlu
MGoBlue2 Posted February 15, 2006 #7 Share Posted February 15, 2006 Kind of hard to answer without knowing how much more it is?
MCazer Posted February 15, 2006 #8 Share Posted February 15, 2006 Bathrooms in Jr Suites have a bathtub. A nice deep one (we stayed in a Jr. Suite ont he Mariner). With the extra room, there is no banging your shins on the bed in the middle of the night on the way to the bathroom. My kids actually played in the closet it is so big! It was also used as a dressing room too. Balcony has a lounger, 2 chairs and a small table very comfortably. We were midship and loved it!
viper88 Posted February 15, 2006 #9 Share Posted February 15, 2006 We booked a jr suite for the EOS 7/22/06. There will be 5 of us in the room and we needed the extra space. Even if it is only 90 sq. ft, it was worth the $200 or so to upgrade from the balcony we had.

wraithe Posted February 15, 2006 #11 Share Posted February 15, 2006 No one else has mentioned yet that if you have a suite or above, including junior suite, you get two cruise credits when you join Crown and Anchor. You get perks depending on how many cruises you've done. Had a JS on Grandeur last year and it was great. Booked a JS on Mariner for April this year. beachlovergirl Posted February 15, 2006 #12 Share Posted February 15, 2006 It depends on how much more it's going to cost. We're booked in a D1 on the Radiance and to upgrade to a JS it's a total of $740 more.......not worth it to me !!!
