After studying your photos some more, I came to somewhat the same conclusion about that area of the Lido deck. The aethestics there underneath the V cabins seem to leave alot to be desired, at least in my book, and you're absolutely right.....leave the tarp in the Wal Mart bag with the receipt unless/until we need it! Great idea!

I will take photos and let you know how it goes. I may have to have some help POSTING them, but we'll cross that deck when we get to it!

Muchas Gracias!

RM

For what it's worth... I have read where some people who have attempted to string lights on their balcony for holidays (and others who have tied up various banners on their balconies) have been asked to take them down by Carnival - for, I suppose, reasons ranging from being a fire hazard to trying to keep the ship from looking like.. well.. "custom/rigged" (etc..) when viewed in port, or by other ships.

Understood. I figure we wouldn't use it often, if at all. Actually, that's why I thought beach towels might work ("look") better.

However, if the boat is underway, who is really going to see a tarp except someone walking around on the Lido deck?

Okay just found this thread and unfortunately, we are in cabin V23 on 3/26! I assume from the photos that when we look out on our balcony (if you can call it that) we will only see a lifeboat? Wish the travel agency had told me this last week. I'm sure I can't get a refund to a lower cabin...this stinks!

  • 2 weeks later...

We had room V22, which is a Cat 11, mini-suite on the Verandah Deck. It also had a balcony. The room was a nice size. Even with a suite, we had a few instances where we had to shuffle by each other, especially around the bathroom/ closet area. The shower was a standup shower with shower curtain. There was no place to hang a suction hook due to the small design of the tile in the bathroom. There were a couple of hooks in the bathroom to hang wet clothes, plus on the balcony. The bathroom has Dove Shampoo and Lever Soap dispensers. There were 8 little packs of different kinds of Crest toothpastes, plus a sample of some kind of shampoo. There was a mirrored medicine chest above the sink for storing your toiletries. The room had a VCR to go with it’s TV. The TV had Denver TV channels for ABC, NBC, CBS and FOX. They also had CNN and 4 – 5 Carnival channels showing shopping, excursion and ship board activities. There was a movie channel that would play a movie every so often during the day, to include ‘Dream Girls’ and ‘Casino Royale’. The room also had a love seat and small coffee table. Even though we had a refrigerator, it never seemed to keep our canned beer and soda cold enough. Our room stewardess, Inna, was very nice and kept our personal cooler always filled with ice. Inna would come to fold down the bed while we were out for dinner, and we always had clean towels available. We had two robes in the room that we never used, plus there were probably 10 – 15 hangers available in the closet. We brought a bungee cord for the balcony door, but never wound up using that either. There were two outlets on the vanity desk, and was sufficient for the hair dryer and curling iron, and we never needed the extension cord we brought. The air conditioning unit is on the ceiling, directly above the bed, and I caught a cold, I think from the air conditioning blowing directly on me. In hind sight we probably should of turned the air conditioning off, and kept the balcony door open for fresh air.

The balcony had two chairs and a table. The balcony dividers were bolted down Plexiglas. The bolts were painted over, so there was no chance of making one big balcony if you had rooms next door to friends. The common area deck below could somewhat look up into your balcony, so it wasn’t completely private.

There was plenty of room under the bed to store some of the suitcases.

Thanks for the pics and details Mike - WOW that is one small balcony! Smaller than the Cat 8 balconies. Alas... you can smell the sea air!

That was my thought as well when I saw the pic of the balcony...VERY SMALL. I'm reallly having a hard time, as my husband and I are trying (yet again) to get our parents on a cruise. They have never cruised in the past, so they do not want to go for a whole week...which means I'm trying to find a 4 or 5 night cruise. Right now, I'm considering the Fascination, since it was refurbished last year. But, this is not an easy task. I would love to go on the Liberty 6 night...but that's too close to a week for them. So, I'm back to the 4 and 5 night options.

I'm in inside cabin # V12 on the Paradise next Dec. I'm worried about noise from Gym(weights). Has anyone been in this or room across the hall(V10)? I chose that deck because of noise problems in the past on other decks.

We stayed in V10 on the Inspiration and the weights were being used very late at night. 1am or so. We complained and it got better but I agree, the staff knows what cabins are below the gym and they should have some courtesy.

Woo Hoo!! Well, my Mom thinks she will be okay with the 6 nights...now, we just have to check with my in-laws. Hopefully, the small balcony (on Fascination) will no longer be an issue, as we will be able to book the Liberty.

See, things often do work out!

Now if the skies would clear (WINDY and RAINY)... heading along the NE Cuba coast right now (Legend) then south to Panama. I looked at a satellite loop, and the area does not appear too large - hopefully tomorrow will be better!

Thank you your pictures of the obstructed views were just want I needed to figure out where the lifeboat was. Carnival has been less than forthcoming as to the extent of the view b,I am booked in V23& V25 and told that they are all that are left in cat 11 without spending more to upgrade to cat 12 so I am at least prepared to deal with it. If it was just me no problem but I am giving the cruise as a present

Just wanted to add a few updates of info from people in other recent threads...

First of all is some info from Janespup

Hi CJW,

I had a cat 11, actually V11, suite. It was perfect! Have to thank you as I had changed my original booking (from Empress deck OV)to this cabin after reading several of your posts. I am so glad that I did. The location couldn't have been better! Close to everything, great view, etc! We commented that we could have easilly done 2 weeks in that room!

And, as someone had suggested that the balconies on this class ship have no privacy, I totally disagree. The deck where a few (maybe 10) people did walk by below us, is about 8 feet below the bottom of the balcony. They could see that we were on our balcony and, if we were standing up, looking over, we said "Hi". If not, they barely knew we were there.

I am already looking into doing the 4 day on the Fascination next year and will try to get the same exact room. Loved it!

Jane

And here's a link to her original thread:

I've got a couple others in the past few weeks to locate, I'll add them as soon as I find them.

CJW

PS Thanks Janespup!;)

I'll try to attach the few pictures I have of the category 11 suite from Fascination 5/28/07. They are 3 shots of the cabin itself.

Thanks. We're booked in a Cat. 11 cabin on the Fascination in November. I hope we don't get the same cabin steward, your's looks a little old. :)

What a great thread !

We are booked on our first cruise in a cat 12 (U90) on the Elation next July. I am like a sponge soaking up all the great info and first hand experiences from all you veteran cruisers. The pics are excellent.

One thing I can add to a previous poster's question is that the Elation will be refurbished in the fall of 2008 according to Carnival.

I can't seem to get info on this ship and the cat 12 suites. :D

Dave, LOL! You made my day! That "old" cabin steward is my husband! He was neatening up the bed for the picture. He would be very insulted if I quoted you, so I won't. But it gave me a good laugh!

I am booked in Feb,2008 on the Inspiration Cabin V-9. This will be the Inspirations Fifth month in service since Her full "EVOLUTIONS OF FUN" Refubishment.(Sept,2007) This is a "Boys" trip and I will have this cabin to myself(Hopefully not the whole trip;) ) as will my buddy's with there oceanviews. Question #1 Is this a decent location? I booked it months ago and now there are NO CAT 11's Left. (All sold out) Question #2 I understand the Balcony is a bit tight but in your opinion with a little chair maneuvering can a 6'1 290lbs "JAILERMAN" sit comfortable on this Balcony??? My only other option is to take an even deeper hit($) and grab one of the last Cat 12's that are still available. I know the Cat 11 room would be just fine size wise but the Balcony has me a bit concerned. Thanks for your time and opinions. have a great day.

Mr. Jailerman: I had V15 on Fascination in December. The location was GREAT. The hall was very quiet and it seemed that we were just steps away from everything. The balcony was defintely smaller than the standard balcony on a Conquest class ship. I am 5'6" (sorry, no weight ever written down anywhere! ) and I had to maneuver the chair around to get comfortable reading out there. You're definitely not having a party out there with you, your friends who you are going with as well as the people you meet on-board.

I'm sure CJW will give some input as he is the expert on this. Not sure what the price difference is to Cat 12 (and how much bigger the balcony actually is), but if the balcony is really important to you, you might want to consider.

Please help me decide....is the location nicer on V3 or V30? V3 is near the stairwell....just one balcony "in" from the front. V30 is just berfore the life boats. I am leaning toward V3...for the better view. PLEASE HELP US...WE HAVE TO DECIDE ASAP! Thanks..........any other advice would be great too!

We were in V15 on the Elation. The balcony was SO cramped I would never book it again. You either had your knees in your chest (almost) or had to dangle your legs over the railing. I am only 5'8" and it was extremely uncomfortable. I usually just went outside and looked over the railing. There was no "relaxing" out there.

There were 5 Cat 12's left for this cruise and after hearing "Tennislover" Tell me that at 5'6 they had to struggle to get comfortable, There are now only 4 Cat 12's left!:) It would be a disappointment to spend that much $ on a cruise (for myself) and not be comfortable on my FIRST Balcony cabin. Anyone have good experiences from the Cat 12"s Middle Starboard side cabins? Thanks once more and I'll check back.:)
