Norway Itinerary-- A: Maloy, Hellesylt/Geiranger, Flaam, Bergen OR B: Nordfjordeid, Flaam, Stavanger, Kristiansand?

Recommended Posts

Both are 7 nights, RT Southhampton on the MSC Magnifica. Which itinerary would you choose and why? Price difference is negligible. Thanks!

If it matters, we are a family of 4 (2 adults & 2 kids 12 & 13 years old). We've done a handful of cruises over the years, including CCL, RCI, and NCL's Pride of America in Hawaii. I adored the scenic views there and am looking forward amazing scenic views in Norway.

No doubt -  A. Month might also be a factor - I prefer June - still snow on the mountains and long days.

Flåm on both itinerary - scenic fjord sailing and Flåm train - Train trickets must be purchased  in advance.

In addition A has scenic sailing into Geiranger - and the View points in Geiranger.

For both Flåm and Geiranger you must be up very early - sunrise 04:30 - to enjoy the fjord sailing.

Bergen is a beautiful DYI city.

Måløy is a coastal city while Nordfjordeid is a short fjord sailing - has not been in these ports.

Stavanger and Kristiansand bigger coastal cities - not that interesting as Berg

More specific details on the ports in various topics in this forum.

Nordfjordeid is a great port for families, but i agree that itinetaty A is overall the best. 2019 was the first year for Nordfjordeid as a cruise port. That was a great success.

2022 is the first year for Maaloy as a cruiseport, have not seen their excursions, but the coast has great nature.

We chose our Norway cruise because the two places we wanted to visit were Geiranger and Flam, and both were amazing.  Do note that the road to the Geiranger Skywalk is seasonally operated, and can open after the big annual avalanche that takes place between mid-may and early June.  We just missed it by a couple of days but sailed in mid May (had a 2 year old so could only sail on Cunard since that was the only line with child care for our youngest).  You'll probably be fine but might want to check depending on how early in June you visit Geiranger (it was still spectacular even without dalsnibba).  Also, in Flam we did the railroad in the morning and had a wonderful excursion to visit the goats in the afternoon.  The details for that are in my signature line below.  They do other tours, so you might want to see if they have anything that is better for teenagers.
