Snorkeling at Buck Island

I've looked at TripAdvisor reviews of Buck Island, and some say the snorkeling is great and the coral is colorful, others say the coral is dead and washed out. These were all recent reviews. Who's right?

 

Visiting St. Croix on Celebrity Equinox in December, looking for good snorkeling and/or beach options, preferably not Celebrity excursions. St. Croix is one of the only ports we can explore on our own.

We went there in 2013 and thought it was pretty great. I would say no matter what, it should have improved during COVID with many fewer visitors.

 We didn't go to Buck Island, we chose a different shore excursion.

Almost every spot in the Caribbean is overused by tourism. If you ever snorkeled in the Hawaii or Philippines or anywhere over there you will see how boring the Caribbean snorkeling scene is.
