Snorkeling advice/Starfish still around?

We were considering a snorkel trip that shows starfish being fairly visible. Anyone know if this is still likely? 

 

In past we have snorkelers from the beach like money bar, wondering if it is worth going out on the boat to the reef?

 

Any thoughts?

Boat is best bet for starfish.  IMO.

take the boat.  Reefs are not as good as they were from the shore.  We have been to cozumel 2x in past year for land vacations and 2x in November off of cruise ship.  Anything with palancar, Columbia reef is worth it.  Only places that were above average from shore were playa corona and money bar.  Im a little spoiled by Bonaire and Roatan snorkeling so bear with me.
