My dilemma...Jan. 15 MG cruise

We missed the cancel/move letter date by one day.  I seriously doubt that Omicron will be less of a problem by then.  IMHO it will be peaking by then.  They gave Christmas cruisers 2 days to act on their cruise! If Carnival waits until 2 days before my cruise to extend the option, I will already be on the road to the port.  We can live with the new protocols. A little annoyed that Carnival wouldn't allow people to cancel/move because of them like they used to, though.  Here's my question:

Has anyone been able to move their cruise to a later date, without penalty, that is after the Jan. 14th cutoff date?

This would have been very recently, as their new policy has been to charge penalties.

I thought the policy was a refund if you say you cant do the protocols. Tell them you dont like the new mask policy. Others got refunds. Push a little or call back.

I tried that on another spring cruise when I called in early December.  No go.  It was before final payment and I lost my deposit.  According to John Heald they are no longer offering refunds or FCC due to changes in protocols.

I called my PVP on Thursday to move an upcoming cruise - it was moved without penalty.  I was coming up on final payment date.  No loss of deposit.

That is great.  Our cruise is in 3 weeks.  Well past final payment.  I hope to be able to move it without penalty.  Hope to hear if someone has been in our position.  We stand to lose $3000 dollars if they won't move our cruise for us.  We will be forced to go ahead and cruise, but would rather postpone until Omicron calms down.

John Heald is wrong sometimes especially through COVID changes and updates. Your Spring cruise most likely hasn't had a major policy change, so you are under the same restrictions you originally agree to- that's why there would have been a penalty. Recently, on December 17th, 18th Carnival changed it's policy to require masking in ALL indoors areas of the ship through January 31, 2022. I have friends who elected to reschedule and they were given a future credit without penalty for the cost of the cruise and a refund on the port taxes and fees. I don't know they've actually received that yet BUT that is what they were told when they called. If it had been a cruise past 1-31-22 I'm sure the answer would have been the one you received back in early December.

My son and I are in the 1/15 MG too. I think we’re going to go ahead and go, mostly because I got a 110 pp casino rate.  We’ll spend most of our time outside anyway, he’s 8.  I wish there was a way to know what the capacity will be.  It’d be a much easier decision if I know it was at say 50 percent capacity.  I think if they want to keep sailing they’re going to need to take capacities down temporarily.

Please update if you call and see what the options are.

We are very much on the fence about this cruise.  I am not so much afraid of Omicron, but what interruptions we will have if there is an outbreak.  The casino, shows, and other venues shutting down would be a real bummer.  I'm sure there will be staffing shortages.  Our Halloween MG cruise had several service issues with reduced capacity.  I guess we will give it a few days to see if those onboard now are having issues.  I will post an update with what we find out.

Just got my cruise pushed back from Jan 15 Panorama to March 12 same ship. Had to gently remind and please check about moving without penalty (tried to charge $1200 penalty) - moved penalty free. Lost the $200 OBC with original booking but got wifi included (which is what I was going to use the OBC for anyway). She also immediately refunded my Cheers package-now just need to retype all the gift card numbers back in to repurchase LOL.

Glad you had a good outcome.  We also moved our Jan. 15 Mardi Gras cruise out a year. Same cabin and basically same casino rate. Hoping that next year's cruise doesn't have the same difficulties that this year's cruise was destined to have.

What about being asked to stay in your cabin and going from port to port hoping you get entry?  Are those days behind us?

Yes, if postive Covid rates go above a certain threshold; they return you to the port of embarkation and folks will have to tested and those positive will be quarantined.
