If you win an upgrade to a spa balcony and you have already booked the thermal spa with your original reservation does NCL refund that money to you?

Yes, but not automatically. Call to cancel your thermal spa passes as soon as you win the upgrade. We won a spa balcony cabin upgrade on the Encore in October, and they refunded the cost of our thermal spa passes to my credit card without issue once I called.

I just bid for an upgrade from balcony to spa balcony for my upcoming cruise.  Thermal pass was $199/person, so I bid $125/person (minimum bid) for the upgrade.  Will see what happens.
