Two things seem likely:

- The older ships correlate to destinations where ports weren't admitting ships (e.g. Europe, South America)

- Use the older ships to quarantine crew and keep the passengers on the new, generally larger and more preferable, ships

I'm wondering if they are going to rotate the crews out from the cancelled cruises to work on the cruises that are still going, to give crews isolation time between voyages.  Just throwing out some ideas.  Of course, our cruise next week is still going (so far) so it's easy for me to speculate.
