Shows on Mardi Gras

We were on Mardi Gras last week. Several of the shows are musical. Family Feud and Deal or No Deal were pretty good. There is a show called M Theory that is an illusionist. It was good. Late in the week there was a show that had Voodoo in the title that we were told had acrobatics included but we didn't see it. We arrived about 45 minutes before the show and the place was packed. There wasn't even a place to stand and watch. We gave up and found something else to do. Do not miss the Flying Scotsman's show. He covers several 80's songs and he is really good.

We went to Rock Revolution and it was great. Try to be there 20 minutes before the doors open to get a close seat.

We also went to the Center Stage production with the violins and dancers. I think it’s called Enchanted.

Again, being close up makes you feel immersed in it, like you’re flying amongst the cartoon flowers.

Didn't they have a juggler performing, heard he got upset if he saw guests taking pictures?

Haha. Yeah Jeff the Juggler stopped his show to call me out for being on my cell phone. I was posting on a live review here. He thought I was texting.

I think they’re rotating the entertainment but when I was there they had the M theory which is like a lot of the magicians I see on Americas got talent. They had a juggler one night and a Broadway singer another night. Then the playlist shows. Celestial Strings is really good. If the Scotsman is CD he will have his own show. Then MG has more comedy than any other ship. Six comedians. They had so many R shows I didn’t have time to go to any of their PG shows. PG in the limelight. R in the punchliner. Late night showcases in the theater.

Are there any shows with acrobatics, magic, mentalist, type things.?

There are shows in Grand Central that include aerialists which are awesome.  The fun thing about those shows is that they can only rehearse in Grand Central, so you can see them do a lot of the stuff super casual during the afternoon.  But if you want to see the show - unfortunately the only good seats to see everything are right in front of the stage.  So plan on arriving and just sitting for at least an hour preshow.  There are plenty of other seats but they are underneath deck 7, so you can see the show on stage but miss a lot of the aerialists above.

Celestial Strings is great, the violin trio in there (New Age) can be found also playing at Brass Magnolia and Fortune Teller.

We were on the Mardi Gras in mid January.   We saw the Celestial Strings, the Vegas show, and the Mardi Gras/Voodo Nights show.   They were musicals/muisc reviews  but they were definitely a step up from what we've seen on Carnival in the past.   WONDERFUL musicians, not that we've ever heard any that were bad, but the singers and instrumentalists were spot on all week long.   Very clever staging, and good sound. Musicians in the bars were excellent too.

Voodoo Moon - that was my favorite; we saw it twice.

Greg, I'm looking at booking Mardi Gras in March.  Where would be the best place onboard to have a few drinks and watch the March Madness games?

I remember this lol

Also I shot some video of him but I was on the third level of the atrium so I don’t think he noticed me doing it.

Go to the summer landing and go to the military appreciation area have lots of tvs plus your close to the bbq and bars also the Casino bar is a good spot as well.

Deck 8 aft. Pig & Anchor/Hero’s Lounge would be the best bet. P&A has a couple of bar TVS as well as other TVs over the tables. Hero’s Lounge has couches and two big screens.

We had a F word conflict on the Sunshine once. Some lady using video on her phone in the comedy club. Plainly stated no phones, camera, video before the start. The lady lost and left in a huff.

You got lucky Pilgrim🤣 See the source image

Comedy show yeah. There was no rule against it at the juggling show. That’s grand central. That would be like the violin players stopping in the middle of a song and telling someone not to use their phone in the atrium of another ship.

He didn’t call me out for taking videos. He called me out for typing. He thought I was texting and just didn’t like that I wasn’t paying 100% attention to him. It was very noticeable because I was the only person in the tables on the lower level. I needed a good spot for videos once he got to the part I hadn’t seen. The fact is I had to leave his show earlier to make dinner. I was now at his second show and he was still on a part I had seen earlier. He did like the videos I posted of him on Instagram.

It sounds like the ratio of theater seats to passengers is considerably lower on Mardi Gras than other ships if there isn't even standing room left 45 minutes before the theater show. And if there are only a few seats that can see the whole show at Canter Stage so you have to be there at least an hour in advance, the whole idea seems like an ill-conceived notion.

Upgrading the entertainment is great, but if many passengers aren't able to see the shows, that frustration isn't going to help their positivity ratings.
