"Gala" Attire on 7 day cruise

Can anybody tell me how many "gala" nights they have on a 7 day cruise.  

 

Our last cruise on MSC was in 2018 and I cannot remember🤔

"Technically" right now there is no Gala night on the 7 nights (unless they have recently re-instated).  There is an elegant dinner but the dress code is Casual.  Confusing?  Yup.  Some folks choose to dress up, others, not so much.

The MSC "gala" evolution was more or less as follows from 2006 when I first started with them:

 

2006-2015 -- 2 gala nights: One for the Captain's reception and a farewell one on the last day of the cruise with a full mid night buffet of very interesting food sculptures.

2015-2017 - 1 gala night and one Italian night that was mostly casual with an Italian flavor attached.

2018-Pandemic start - 1 gala night and at least one other theme night with casual dress code.

From the restart to date - No gala night. They have an "Elegant" optional dinner. Compliance might to be far and between, depending on the demographics.

 

Gala or formal nights on MSC have been mostly cocktail dresses or nice dark trousers and blouse for ladies and suit and tie or nice trousers and a blazer for men. Not "over the top" formal like on the American lines. Either way and no matter the day, formal or casual; you'll be fine in a smart casual dress code like when you'll go on a nice restaurant in town.

I wore a (cheap) suit in the YC for Elegant Night in January and I was severely overdressed. I mean, I felt awkward. This was in Europe... I know US cruises are generally even more casual.

I wear what is in my profile picture on "gala" or "formal" nights on Caribbean cruises.  Dress khaki jeans and a colored polo.
