Cruises did not start being cancelled until February or March of 2020. We cruised in August 2019 and Covid was not even a topic of discussion until December, 2019.

Carnival gift cards are new info to me. I have not cruised since 2017 ( 2019 cruise canceled due to covid) I feel like a baby cruiser again.  Fill me in please.

The benefit of gift cards is when you can buy them at a discount or get a statement credit when you find a deal using your credit cards. You can save 10% when purchasing. Citi, Chase, AMEX, Capital One and Bank of America have all had deals. You can also redeem points for free gift cards through some credit cards.

In the past year I have used points from Citi Thank You Preferred for two $100 cards. $35 statement credit from Chase Slate, Chase Amazon and BOA. $250 statement credit from Citi Diamond Preferred off $1000 Carnival charge. $250 statement credit for opening a new Carnival Barclays card.

Booked Christmas, Spring Break and summer vacation cruises of casino rates with a total of $1850 OBC. My son will make Platinum as a teenager. Every penny helps.

The one downside to using gift cards is if your cruise is canceled, or if you have to cancel for any reason, you will get money back on gift cards. It kind of ties your money up and locks you in to spending it with Carnival.

Wow...Definitely going to start looking into some of these options.
