klfrodo Posted March 3, 2022 #1 Share Posted March 3, 2022 I think the question has always been asked about who regulates the on board casino. This video answers that question.
noobcrooser Posted March 8, 2022 #2 Share Posted March 8, 2022 (edited) It’s funny you brought this up, but I watched this last week and was thinking how it didn’t make any sense because everyone always talks about how tight the slots are on cruise ships. I was on a recent Celebrity cruise and can confirm that the slots were extremely tight (75-80% RTP based on my estimations). Everyone I talked to in the casino agreed that the slots were terrible, and they told me that even the casino staff was saying that no one was winning. I have no idea which cruise line this guy works for but I can’t imagine he works for X. Edited March 8, 2022 by noobcrooser

I question how much of an authority this person was. Cruise casino slot machines are notoriously set to extremely low payout percentages. Video poker paytables on cruise ships are universally horrible. In most every casino (on water or on land), if the casino manager has chosen poor video poker payback percentages, they have also chosen poor slot machine payback percentages. Also, he kept referring to the casino issuing "1099-Gs", which is incorrect. A 1099-G is issued for certain government payments like unemployment. Casinos issue W-2G forms as needed, not a 1099-G. I would say at best to take everything he said with a grain of salt. My educated opinion says that you can flat out disregard a lot of what he said as being inaccurate.

I've had the opportunity to "be nosey" when a tech is running a diagnostic on the ship, and seeing the payout percentages the chip is set at. Both times that I saw this they were set at 94% and 96% respectively. Personally, I do not find that the machines are "looser" or "tighter" than any machines I have played on land. It was interesting, I could see the money in, and the money out over the lifespan of the machine as well. I wish I had the opportunity to study it a bit more, but he could tell I was being nosey reading it. Not to mention I said something about the money in/money out, and he got squirrelly. Casino Player Posted April 19, 2022 #5 Share Posted April 19, 2022 HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO Fellow cruise ship casino fans, Slot machines are terrible on cruise ships. Very low winning percentages. It isn't as if they are competing with other casinos. You are a trapped audience. It is that casino or don't play. Learn to play table games. You will have a better time playing, get more points for better offers, and have a better shot at winning.

I'll agree w/ all you mentioned, with the big exception of 'more points'....not even close to a true statement on RCCL.

Just got off the Majestic Princess and witnessed quite a few jackpots being paid out over the 7 days. I came home with 6K after I put 1K onto my shipboard account and I only play slots and am not a max bettor. Last cruise I did very well also and came home with quite a bit more than I went with. Best part is being Canadian there are no taxes withheld. My come back and play offer given to me the last night was a Free Mini Suite with Princess Plus and a nice amount of Free Play. No way I would get that playing table games which I hate lol.

They take longer to play and you must know the different rules for each game. My wife loved to play slots and didn't play table games. Same with most members of her family.
