Spa thoughts

My husband and I are going on our first cruise ever on April 20th. We are taking RC Splendour of the Sea from Galveston to Cozumel. We cannot wait! He is a CPA and will be just finished with tax season. We live in Waco, Texas, and I teach elementary school...

I wanted to get some info about the spas on board the ships. I LOVE to go to a spa. When we go to Vegas, I always try to do at least 2 treatments (I save up my money for this purpose) while we are there.

I would love any feedback about the "spa experience" on a cruise ship. I had been told by someone that they really try and push their spa products on you. That doesn't really bother me, I will just say "no thank you". Do they have a general shower/changing area? My main question about that is because I am sure it is much bigger than the shower in our cabin. I know in the spas at the hotels I have been in (Vegas), you can pay a charge just to "get ready" in the larger shower area. Do they do anything like that on ships? Or is that area only if you are getting a treatment?

Any tips, thoughts, or ideas would be appreciated! Thank you -

Nic:)

The spas are wonderful, large and have women's and men's changing areas. They have lockers, showers and places to fix yourself up after you've gone through a treatment. The spas on RCCI are run by Steiner, and you can go to their website to find out all about their offered treatments. Yes, they do push their products, but a nice "no thank you" takes care of that. You really shouldn't use the spa shower area if you're not getting any treatments, plus you have to sign in at their reception desk and they escort you to the women's changing area.

We use the spa/fitness center showers all of the time without getting a treatment on the different ships we have been on. We've never sailed the Splendour. The sauna and showers were free of charge and not directly tied into spa services. If you work out at all in the fitness area then the showers are there for your use as well. The lockers you needed a key for and you just went to the desk and signed out a key. No charge. Spa services are separate and can get a little pricey but not much more than land spa services. Do some more research and you can easily find a price list. They did run different specials each day and this might be the best way to utilize the services for pay.

I love the spa treatments as well. And everyone else is right, most cruise spas try to push the products after the treatment is over. But not more than you can handle with a "no thank you"

I once did an aromatheapy capsule where they locked me in this capsule, put a massaging vibrate on my back, warm towels down my body and set it to a nice warm temperature, headphones on my ears playing relaxing music and a little bit of cool air blowing on the face. They said 20 minutes in this capsule was like sleeping for hours. It was WONDERFUL!

I hope our next cruise has one of those!

Please do the Rasul for me! DH and I did the couples massage and rasul on the voyager in october---DO IT FOR ME! If you still like your spouse....and still like to have fun with your spouse....do the rasul. It is fabulous. Here is a taste--after the couples massage--they bring you both into a changing room....where you remove any and all clothing and go into the rasul room. There, once the button is pushed, will come steam from above--on the counter will be bath salts, scrubs, stuff to massage each other with....THEN--a gentle rain comes down to wash away the salts and scrubs......AAAHHH....heaven. Then after--there is a great big shower outside to wash your hair, change and start the rest of your day.....

Please, do the rasul for me. It's worth the extra.

We did buy something, only because we wanted it, but we had to ask for it, we were not pushed. There is this great smelling mint shower gel for like a million dollars....well $36 a bottle...anyway, it smelled so great, I had to have it. I use it sparingly at home, still have more than 3/4 of the bottle left!

One suggestion - let the person doing your treatment know, at the outset, that you don't want to have products pushed on you. They tend to end your treatment a few minutes early so that they have time to try and sell you things, so if you tell them up front that you're not interested, you might get a few more minutes of service.

  • 7 months later...

Earlier this year we were on Carnival Legend and the showers in the spa locker rooms had mutiple shower heads. As I liked to work out and use the hot tub prior to dinner, I took many of my showers in the spa locker rooms. It was wonderful!

Does anyone know if the showers in the spa on Splendour of the Seas has multiple shower heads? Since I am going to be in a quad cabin for my next cruise in Aug 2007 to the Greek Isles, I think I will probably do th same thing that I did on the last cruise and use the showers in the spa.

My wife and I got the couples massage on the Sovereign, 9/4/06. It was wonderful!! 55 minutes, $110 per person. I felt it wasn't excessively expensive, and we had NO products pushed onto us. The massage therapists were extremely professional and did a great job-we tipped them both very well for their efforts.

Hope you enjoy!
