Rare albingirl Posted April 19, 2022 #51 Share Posted April 19, 2022 My two cents are that, unfortunately, our world is on fire. Be safe in your travels or stay home. As far as Venice is concerned, we've known about that change for a long time. There really are no surprises here. You can always find other things to do. Sadly, for the people of Ukraine, they wish they had our travel dilemmas, I am certain.

It's beyond the control of the cruise lines when world events over take the situation on the ground. Yes, with Norway and Sweden talking about joining NATO, bully Russia is not happy! Just look at Ukraine to see what they are capable of.
OlsSalt Posted April 20, 2022 #53 Share Posted April 20, 2022 Goteburg is one of our favorite ports - head to the Fischkirche for the best pickled herring ever, and their Art Museum downtown has a remarkable and very accessible collection of French Impressionists, as well as a very credible array of stunning Nordic art. University of Lund is a short train ride away - lovely campus and historic streets. The Goteburg dock yard itself with its fast moving mobile cranes was pretty dazzling to see in its own right, treating these heavy cargo all like little stacks of Legos.

Were you docked in the industrial port, which is about 20 minutes from the center? If so, did HAL provide shuttles into the town center?

It became a ballet of heavy equipment - moving containers, while stacking, restocking them and loading them on the waiting trucks. And yes, there were shuttles. Several stops here, so I don't remember the exact details for each one, other than liking this port stop a lot and would be very happy to return. I am remembering a canal boat tour as well which was special - we always did this port on its own. Even if one thinks they don't like pickled herring, when you get if freshly made at the "Fish Church" it enters into an entirely different taste and texture world. Velvety and delicious. We like the curried herring the best.
