jules0819 Posted April 13, 2022 #1 Share Posted April 13, 2022 We are looking a booking a cruise from Vancouver to Alaska. My question: I would like a balcony cabin, unobstructed, probably midship as I tend to get sea sick. Can someone tell me what deck, room area I should look for? Have never sailed on Holland. Rare Mary229 Posted April 13, 2022 #2 Share Posted April 13, 2022 Here is the deck plan, I like Deck 5, it is quiet as you have cabins above and below https://www.hollandamerica.com/content/dam/hal/inventory-assets/ships/pdf-files/ko.pdf there is also this website where people post photos of cabins www.halfacts.com. The Koningsdam is a Pinnacle class ship
Trapper44 Posted April 14, 2022 #3 Share Posted April 14, 2022 We were onboard the Koningsdam for 25 days this past Feb. We were in 4113 just aft of the middle elevators. We were above the Dutch Cafe and the only noise I noticed was from deck 5. You should be taking the inside passage so you will have land close on both sides most of the time. When we went to Alaska, we sailed from Vancouver north. We were in an aft wrap on deck 8. My wife also tends to get seasick. Only the night we transited out to sea to dump gray water did the seas get a little choppy and she was able to handle it well, with the help of Bromine. The higher you are on the ship the farther you can see. The drawback is you will get more motion. Only you can decide where you want your cabin so enjoy whatever you choose. Alaska is beautiful and majestic.
Heartgrove Posted April 15, 2022 #4 Share Posted April 15, 2022 (edited) After sailing mid-ship in Vista Suites on both the Nieuw Statendam and Koningsdam (unobstructed by the lifeboats/tenders), my wife is currently onboard the Nieuw Statendam in an aft stateroom VC6164. This is near the small hallway leading to the aft elevators so handy to the Lido and Seaview Deck Pool. We have enjoyed this area for a stateroom on Vista-class and Signature-class ships before. The ride is very good plus no obstructions below. There are connecting staterooms so it may be a factor for choice on some decks.
