Le Verdon a, France. 3 hour stop only on Cruise in Oct

Curious why this is. The prior day we overnight in Bordeaux. Leave Bordeaux around 10 am and it takes 7 hours to get to LeVerdon? Maybe the ship sight sees on the way? 
 

the town is a couple miles from the port. No taxis or buses . Is it worth getting off the ship? I thought about dinner there but msybe not. There must be a reason for this stop? Maybe provisions?

It will be to pick up passengers that left the ship on Oceania excursions from Bordeaux in the morning.  Timings are cruicial on the Garonne river due to tides, particularly on Marina & Riviera, and the ship would probably have stayed in Bordeaux had the tides permitted.

Thank you! I did not realize there were tours on the 16th. I booked an 8 hour tour to cognac and will  re board  the ship as you mentioned.
