NCL Getaway funnel

Can you tell me when the funnel was enlarged? I found a video of a dry dock refurbishment, but nothing recorded the funnel being modified.

I sailed on the Getaway back in November 2014, and am going again this October so I’m curious about any and all modifications since...beyond carpet changes.

It was around the time when cruising was shut down during covid. They installed a scrubber system to make the exhaust gas cleaner

Interesting! Does anyone have a before/after?  I know they installed the scrubber but wasn't aware the overall funnel was adjusted.

I agree!  Original funnel always felt too small.  When the Breakaway launched I always thought that the deck area below could easily get a down draft from the exhaust.  Obviously it was engineered to not but always thought it was half the size it should be.

 

The update so the Norwegian Spirit's sister ship at Dream Cruises/Star Cruises is quite interesting as well - I'm assuming the additional size funnels have scrubbers within.

Well as a ship person....importance in design ...I’m a bow, stack ,stern in that order😉

But today’s design seem to disregard the exterior and concentrate on the interior...guess I’m just old school.
