What hair tools work on carnival ships?

Recently on the Sunshine my dyson hair dryer and ceramic curling iron did not work in the cabin outlets.
I did not have this problem on the Sunrise or the Freedom just a few months ago.
I’m going on the Mardi Gras in December and I’m worried I’ll run into the same issues.

Does anyone know what hair dryers and curling irons will definitely work on the ship?

I agree that it varies by ship.  I have been on 5 different ships in the past year (Mardi Gras, Radiance, Miracle, Breeze, and Sunrise).  The only ship I had an issue on was Mardi Gras.  My curling iron had worked on all the other ships, so when I was on Mardi Gras and the power light would come on, but it wouldn't heat up, I thought it had been damaged in travel and threw it away.  Then I read here that is a typical occurrence on Mardi Gras.  But my blow dryer brush DID work on Mardi Gras so I'm confused.

And the steam created from the same blow dryer brush set off the smoke alarm on Sunrise (that was quite the ordeal - ugh) but was fine on all the other ships.

Sorry, all that to say, in answer to your question, my Hot Tools blow drying brush worked on all the ships listed above.  My Conair Infinity Pro curling iron worked on all but Mardi Gras.

I use a travel size hair dryer (still ample wattage just not as high as a big one that is 1700-1800 watts) and a "normal" curling iron - metal not ceramic.  Plus I have the Revlon curling brush blow dryer (gives gentle curls AS it dries).

All of these have worked on all the ships I have been on.

I would be willing to bet it is about how many amps/watts you are trying to pull with it as to if it will work or not.

I posted this on another thread - and it's specific to the Celebration and probably the other ships in the same class.  See Below.

Ok, new information - I spoke to a representative at Carnival Cruise.  Apparently any device that has that ALCI plug (they refer to it as a surge protector) will not work on ships in the Celebration class (he claims all ships but I know this to not be true as my hair dryer has this and it worked on the Magic).  Perhaps some of you will say you were able to use devices with this type of plug, however, the representative at Carnival read to me the specifications which claim it absolutely will not work on the Celebration.

So if you have a hair dryer blowout brush that has this (and apparently by law it must include this), it won't work - looking on Amazon, there is the odd one that seems to be available that does not have this feature so I think I will get one if I can for travelling.

It really is too bad as eventually all devices might be equipped with this sort of plug at least any powerful ones.

If any one here has a different experience, please let me know.

The only hair dryer that hasn’t worked for me on a carnival ship is my Dyson hair dryer. I’ve taken an Amika brand and T3 brand hair dryer on all cruises since and I they have both worked. There is something with Dyson products that they do not work on the ships.

I used the T3 on the Mardi Gras. It has the plug you’re talking about and it worked. I bought their compact travel dryer so that plug part is smaller than a lot of other hair dryers (don’t be fooled even though it’s travel size it works great)1192132A-B809-48BA-BBF7-E2C572665196.thumb.jpeg.258da2213d9758cf3288e5b779af8bec.jpeg

Thank you!  That's good to know - obviously the information they are giving out is not 100% accurate so it could be hit and miss.

I have the Revlon blow out brush and it has that plug and am going on a back to back on the Celebration in January - I think I'll try to find another one to bring also in case it doesn't work and I'll check out that hair dryer you showed.

Thanks again.

I actually had a serious issue using a non-ceramic curling iron on the Mardi Gras.  All of a sudden there was a terrible smell, and I realized that a chunk of my hair had burned off.  It's the only time that I've ever had an issue on a Carnival ship.

Yikes!!  That's scary!

So, to summarize, the most problematic devices are those with digital motors (Dyson) and ceramic heating elements, and these will work sometimes and not work sometimes, across all ships of all cruise lines.
