will RCCL let you know how many kids are onboard before you book

i was wondering if princess or rccl will tell you how many kids are on a ship before you book.....i am deciding between 2 ships in May

I am sure they know - but I don't know if they give you that information.

Some schools are out at the last week in May. If you are before that time, you should be O.K.

I was just on Navigator with 1000 kids. No problems at all. It was very nice seeing so many dress up for formal nights.

I've never really noticed the kids on any of our cruises. I know they were there, but.... There's alot for them to do, so they stay busy in their area, for the most part. The only time there was a problem, was when some dad decided his kid was okay to be at the solarium pool, which is adult only. Some people!!! After many dirty looks, and a quick conversation with a pool attendant, he finally took the little whippersnapper and left.

I agree it would be nice to know. Kids add a lot to the flavor of a cruise - bring a sense of joy and life. It would be nice to know that a ship has a good number of children on board!

Unfortunately they can't, just like they can't tell me how many rude adults will be on board.

 

Even if they could and they told you there are going to be 200 children, and when you go there are 1000 are you going to be mad because the information they gave you was wrong? It changes on a daily basis, even the close.

 

I know I wish I could see the future, so I could pick the right lottery number and get the royal family suite on every cruise.

We sailed on princess over spring break last year and the staff told us that they had to bring additional staff onboard for those weeks to work in the kids area......because they normally have very few kids sailing.

 

The adults were also surprised to see so many kids onboard. That says a lot. It sounds like princess is much less family oriented than RCL - IMHO. That's what it sounded like to me.

 

Of course if you sail during spring or winter break you will have lots of kids everywhere.

Agree - would be a good thing to know, but because I book at least a year in advance, don't think it would help me. I'm also a teacher so I have to cruise during high-kid times.

Ummmm, WHY would I flame the op? They asked a valid question. I take my children on cruises when other kids are suppose to be in school cause I don't necessarily love a cruise ship being overrun with wall to wall kids.

I think it really depends on WHEN in May you are going. If you go in early May, most kids are still in school. We went on the Enchantment May 10, 04 and my 2 ds's (13 & 17 at the time) were practically the only kids on board...

 

I live in the FL panhandle and schools in my area start getting out around the 3rd week in May.

We asked how many kids there were on a summer cruise on Carnival Glory and got the answer...900. Unfortunately we asked after the cruise. That was the only cruise I have ever taken that was truly disrupted by kids (not teenagers). At one point I broke up a fight between an irate and bossy 12 year old and and another boy his age. There were unattended kids playing hide and seek behind the artwork during the auction and kids would congregate in the hallways and block traffic. I even saw a young girl (around 9) slap her father in the face after she was told to stop bothering her little brother. I don't know what was going on on that ship but I do not want to ever be on another ship with that many kids and that many non-caring parents.

I have much much much much more problems with rude adults than I ever do with kids (although I generally leave mine at home, this year we are bringing them on first cruise)

So who was to blame - the kids or the "non-caring parents"?

 

Maybe I'd rather know how many non-caring parents will be on the ship.;)

I agree wuth all those who have not had a problem with kids on board. There have always been plenty, and I have never had a problem. As a matter of fact, I find some of them quite enjoyable and in some cases, more mature than their parents

When you really think about it, all it takes is a couple lousy parents to ruin some portion of your cruise because their kids are acting up. So it really doesn't matter if there are 500 or 1000.

 

And it is really hard to tell which cruise would be better for you. I would say to find a smaller ship that would be less attractive to families, but you may end up with kids that have nothing to do. If you go on the ships that do attract families, there is more to keep them busy, but there are more kids and a higher chance of being annoyed.

 

It's all really in your attitude. I remember my wife and I on our first (actually the last one ;) ) cruise: First it was the Empress, the oldest ship on the fleet, second we got to the port and waited in line forever to get in. When we got in, they were still cleaning the ship and doing repairs. We got to our room and tried looking out the window, but it was all dirty. We went to Windjammer to eat but the line was out the door and they were about to close. It wasn't a great start. We ended up just going back to our room, crashing on the bed and laughing about it - because there was nothing else to do. We ended up having a great time, despite the fact that the stablizers on the ship kept making a really loud noise.

 

Most likely you'll pick a cruise and have fun on it. Don't worry so much.

My husband and I have usually cruise the first and second week in April. There are usually a lot of kids on board during that time. This year we are going later to avoid a large number of kids. Our son is now grown and we did take him on a cruise when he was 14. But now we want to vacation with fewer children on the ship. I do agree with the posters that said it's the adults that don't attend to their children that is the problem. We went one year and children were running up and down the centrium stairs and sliding on the railings. I was petrified one of them was going to get seriously hurt. They were pushing every button on the elevators and generally being extremely annoying. But I did notice that it was usually the same group of kids doing this. That being said, everyone is entitled to take their children on vacation. It is a public ship. We went on the Grandeur in May of one year and there were only 100 kids on the ship that week.

I Have Been On 2 Cruises During Spring Break, 1 Was The Enchantment During Spring Break And The Other Was The Navigator During St. Patricks Day, Sure Kids Will Be Kids But For The Most Part They Were Great, They Made Our Time A Little More Enjoyable And The Other Kids That Were Being Jerks Were Escorted Off The Ship At The Next Port And We Never Seen Them Again, So Really, I Wouldn't Worry So Much, It Was A Great Time.
