There are several piers in Québec City. The area around the main terminal - berths 21 and 22 - is a good spot for close views. If the ship is departing from berth 30 east of there, a good view can be had by walking east a little along the attractive boardwalk. For a wide-angle view, the Dufferin Terrace at the Chateau Frontenac Hotel gives stunning views. It is high above the old town, but there is a funiculaire. There are a lot of steps to climb so we always use it. Here is a map showing the cruise ship berths: https://www.portquebec.ca/en/cruises/information-for-cruise-ship-passengers/access-to-docks Unlike most ports, Québec does not show berth assignments more than one month in advance. https://www.portquebec.ca/en/cruises/vessel-schedules/seasonal-schedule

Definitely beautiful views from the Dufferin Terrace. And what a great place for a walk. (photos by turtles06)
Rare david,Mississauga Posted August 29, 2022 #4 Share Posted August 29, 2022 Turtles06 beat me to it, but since I had pulled some photos from my files I will post two of them. The first view of the Queen Mary 2 was taken close to the top of the funiculaire on Dufferin Terrace. The second one shows how close you can get to ships at berths 21 and 22. Twickenham Posted September 5, 2022 #5 Share Posted September 5, 2022 Local ship-spotter here 🙂 The absolute best spot for watching ships leave from berths 22 and 21 is at the top of the multi-storey parking lot built alongside berth 22 (official name SPAQ Place des Canotiers). There are 2 ways for a pedestrian to access this : via the entrance off rue Dalhousie and elevator, or by taking the outside staircase running along the side facing the adjoining park. The reward is this view: The first picture shows the end of the staircase, and the viewing platform where you can see the ships, with the other two being the view from the end of the platform of the Zaandam (berth 22) and Ocean Explorer (berth 21). Now, if the ship you want to see is at berth 30, that's a bit more complicated. You can't go alongside the terminal there; but all is not lost. You can go behind the grain elevators (you can see them in the 3rd photo) and watch as the ship sails, but it's a bit of a hike, especially on foot. However, you could still see the ship sail away from the parking lot platform - the ship would enter the river just past that grey tower that you see beside the Ocean Explorer in the above photo.
