The mid-to-late autumn is a very good time to do a Mediterranean cruise. There's much less crowds in the popular "must-see"  locations, and the weather is more pleasant for city-sightseeing and touring historical sights. I would actually recommend avoiding the Med at least in August, as it can be very hot and it´s also the height of the holiday season in southern Europe. The Baltics and the Norwegian fjords are very nice from June through August/early September though.

I agree with the Med! There are fewer tourists in the fall, and the Med is a simply magical destination!

Cruise the Med in September and spend time before/after in either Rome or Barcelona.  Royal usually has a larger ship there, if you like the larger ships.  We had Greek Isles booked but...Covid.  Looking forward to that at some point in the future.

Everything that everyone has suggested is brilliant !!  So much to see and do out there.

You need to narrow it down to fit in with your preferences.

 

Port-intensive cruise or one with lots of sea days.

Nearby departure port or long travel time.

Short cruise or long cruise.

 

Figure out the basic things and the rest will follow.  Enjoy!!
