Thanks jn advance,

No, you do not need to pay for an internet plan to use the HUB app. Put your phone into airplane mode, then connect to the ship's WiFi network (no paid plan required to do that) and the HUB app will work.

Yeah, they expect guests to use the hub app for a variety of tasks. Checking in for YTD, Seaday Brunch, and the need to access the menus for ordering. The daily FunTimes posted in the app allows you to keep tabs on all activities. Great for periodic checking of your folio so there are no surprises in your account.

NO internet, just make sure phone is in airplane mode and connect to app (download it before you leave).  Once on board you will upload your portfolio number to it so it knows who you are.

You need to "check in" on the Carnival hub app (not "book") if you have YTD (make sure that is what you have before your sail by looking in your booking.  It works like a land-based restaurant.  When you are ready to eat you click the check in button and how many guests will be dining.  Your phone will then alert you (with it plays a little jingle) when your table is ready.  We usually check in when we are ready to walk out of our room and by the time we get 1/2 way there it is going off that our table is ready.  Only exception was on formal night at prime time, then the wait was a little longer.  You don't want to actually show up at the dining room until your phone has alerted you though as it can be a bit of a mob scene down there, so if you get close and it hasn't alerted you yet, stop and have a seat and people watch or have a drink.  You have like 10 minutes to arrive when you are alerted the table is ready.

The HUB app shows you all the things to do on board and you can "like" them by clicking on the little hearts and it will alert you when those are coming up so you don't forget.

You can see where to eat and what is available at any given time.

You can check your portfolio and on-board account, the weather for the day, it shows you which muster station you are in, book excursions, it does it all!

You can also view any photos you may have had taken on it.  One extremely important note.  ABSOLUTELY MAKE SURE you have the app downloaded BEFORE you get on the ship. It can be a very expensive thing to do after the fact roaming charge wise.

If desired you can also use the Hub app to message others in your group, there's a $5 sign up fee for that.
