douggell Posted March 3, 2006 #1 Share Posted March 3, 2006 If one chooses to "do it on your own", are there usually lots of taxis waiting dockside at places such as Gibraltar, Coruna, Le Havre, Zeebrugge, Amsterdam, Copenhagen? Which of these offer a relatively easy walk into town i.e. 30" to 45"?
Andee Posted March 3, 2006 #2 Share Posted March 3, 2006 In Gibraltar, there were lots of taxis waiting, and town was about a 30 minute walk away. Copenhagen was very easy to do on our own, and we docked about 15 minutes walk from DT.
vjblk Posted March 3, 2006 #3 Share Posted March 3, 2006 Of the ports you listed, we have visited Gibraltar, Amsterdam and Copenhagen. All very easy ports to do on your own. Amsterdam was about a 15-20 minute walk to the Central Station which is the start of their downtown area. A very easy city to walk around on your own. We were easily able to walk the Rijksmuseum, the vangogh museum and the Anne Frank house. In Gibraltar we were able to walk into the main part of town and then catch the tram up the rock and then we walked back down to see the apes on the way back. Long hot walk but very doable. We caught the ship in Copenhagen but once we checked in we were able to easily walk back into the city and see some sights. Due to jet lag though we had to catch a taxi back to the ship. We also visited Le Havre but we took the ship's "on your own" bus service into Paris which is a 3 hour bus ride away. If I recall, there were taxi's waiting in all of these ports. Have not visited the other ports. You may want to post this on the Europe ports of call section. You will get alot of info there too.
