rloke Posted September 27, 2022 #1 Share Posted September 27, 2022 Hi all, Will be bringing a Sony A7R2. What telephoto would you folks suggest? Thinking about the Tamron 150-500 but the wide end at 150 might be too much when on land as most wildlife would not be at a great distance away? Perhaps the newer 50-400 would be a better choice? donaldsc Posted September 28, 2022 #2 Share Posted September 28, 2022 Are you doing a drive by on a big ship or a ship where you do landings. The reason I ask is that if you are doing an expedition cruise you may have a weight limitation on your flight to your jumping off point. You need to check. DON Hi Don...we will be on a small expedition ship with landings. I believe the charter flight will most definitely have a weight limit. Don't have the exact number yet but likely 40-50 lbs max. We are definitely packing light and hoping that an additional 2lbs of telephoto lens would not burst the limit.
Hezu Posted September 28, 2022 #4 Share Posted September 28, 2022 Have you already thought what other lenses you will bring along?

Don't know what they would do if you were over weight. DON

archstroke Posted October 12, 2022 #10 Share Posted October 12, 2022 Tamron does have an 18-300mm lens for Sony E-mount, but I'm not sure if your camera has that. I haven't used that particular one, but I do have their 18-200mm and 18-400mm and I've been very happy with having to bring less lenses on trips. https://tamron-usa.com/product/lenses/b061.html
