Lib0007 Posted March 7, 2006 #26 Share Posted March 7, 2006 Reading another confusing thread makes me wonder . . . was the waterslide operational last week, and if so, do you happen to know what the minimum weight requirement is? Thanks!
cruzn4life Posted March 7, 2006 #27 Share Posted March 7, 2006 OP - Thanks for the great review! Glad you had a good trip! Libby - Don't know about last week, but the week we were on board, it was only open a couple of days because of the wind/waves.
firsttimespaz Posted March 7, 2006 #28 Share Posted March 7, 2006 Lib007 - the waterslide was operational last week. I know that I saw some kids on it on Friday as we walked through the deck. Sorry, I don't know the weight limit as I didn't go on it myself. Iamthesea - I think you have the right idea about getting down their early. We slept in and then joined PAcruisebear for a late breakfast, a stroll around the deck, and then tried the line. We did talk to some people that were able to get off early. They said that the lines were still long, but at least they got to spend some time in key west. You can not by pass the trolleys as you need to be on them to get through the military base. My best suggestion is to get there as early as you can and just be patient. spike007 - We were not on the cruise over Presidents day. We left the Saturday following. This made for a bit more crowds in Disney that Friday, but I don't think it had much of an impact on the ship. I did notice that there were quite a few college students that were on spring break already. Most of the ones that we came across were from Texas. Cathy - how much are you charging to stow away in your suitcase? There were quite a few Pittsburghers on the Glory with us. Saw a lot of STEELERS stuff. And then ran into 2 more couples at MCO that were heading to the Glory for the Eastern Cruise!
vuittonmom Posted March 7, 2006 #29 Share Posted March 7, 2006 Waterslide was operational last week - and I saw HUGE people on it - so I don't think there is a weight limit. I concur with going down to Deck 0 and being the first ones there if you want to see any of Key West.
Serangel71 Posted March 7, 2006 #30 Share Posted March 7, 2006 Saturday was a bit of a cluster. I woke up at 6:30 to watch us pull into port but when I looked out the door we were still far from port. Eventually an anouncement came over saying there was a security problem at the port and we would be delayed. This Saturday security problem explains the over 75 min wait in a hot car to drop off my Husband & son on the 4th. Busses & Shuttles were zoomed through in their own special line. And the place to drop off passengers was just too small for the amount of cars, especially when 1 gentleman decided he needed to complete his luggage tags for the pile of stuff he had there. Nothing says self-important like that. I was a little upset because I was doing this on my lunch hour (actually took 2 but ended using 3) I was hungry, hot and disappointed that I was headed back to work and not on the cruise. (I prepare taxes and time right now is very precious) Unless driving to Tampa during the Strawberry Festival & road construction - this trip to Canaveral should be less than 2 hours (Orlando, near airport). Oh, well. Everyone arrived safe & I have the good car for the week. Just answer me this -- was the coffee ok? RCCL has Seattle best(yuck) - I drink tea but my Husband drinks coffee. Oh, thanks to the reviews I told my husband where to hang out to read and a few other tips. Waiting to see if we will be going in MAy. Have a co-worker booked on May 13. Thanks for the tips & answering why my long wait.
Lib0007 Posted March 7, 2006 #31 Share Posted March 7, 2006 Waterslide was operational last week - and I saw HUGE people on it - so I don't think there is a weight limit. I was wondering about the minimum weight/age, not the maximum! But I guess that is good to know! My son is 7 and is looking forward to the slide. Thanks. Nothing says self-important like that. This statement isn't fair! :o Our stateroom luggage tags are incorrect and new ones will have to be issued at the pier, so we cannot do them ahead of time. This will take some time as it is for three people with two bags a piece! I am bringing some of my mailing labels, but will still have to add our phone number, stateroom number and sail date.;)

I think your son will be just fine - the kids had a ball on the slide.

This will take some time as it is for three people with two bags a piece! I am bringing some of my mailing labels, but will still have to add our phone number, stateroom number and sail date.;) I am sorry you feel that way - I didn't mean to upset anyone. Think of this - 1 man filing out tags for at least 4 people and then he had to get the porter to move the bags so he could backout his car & park. Wouldn't it have been better to have the assistance of some of the luggage owners? Couldn't they have put the bags on the curb so they could do the tags while he parked the car? Your group has 6 bags - how many people will be doing new tags? With 3 people helping it shouldn't have taken the time it took this man. It was way over 20 minutes I watched him as we inched around the loop. I don't know why your tags are wrong and it's been a while since i was on Carnival but I have had my cabins changed many times & my bags have made it to the cabins or were easy to find. I guess, without hurting anyone, my point is this man had other people to assist him in making new tags. There was only 8 or 9 parking spots. I also cannot believe that any cruise line would not have someone from the lines assisting, especially on Saturday. May I suggest bringing a sharpie marker so the new tag cabin numbers show up easily?
Iamthesea Posted March 8, 2006 #35 Share Posted March 8, 2006 I have Sharpie ready to go...and you didn't upset me. I was just trying to point out that some passengers cannot fill their tags out ahead of time. :) Granted, we will not have an automobile in the way as we will be dropped off by a limo service. It's for my children's stateroom. We upgraded them (it's a surprise) and the docs came with the old stateroom and deck on them. If I knew what color of tag is used for the Upper deck, perhaps I could color the tags and put the new stateroom number on them. BTW - I had to laugh when you said that other party members could have helped the man. I know good and well that I will be the only person filling in the tags for our party. It's quicker for me to do it than to explain to everyone how to fill out their own. :D
LizaMM Posted March 8, 2006 #36 Share Posted March 8, 2006 We did the Conch train on our last visit. Docked right in town! On this visit, we are going bar hopping and need every minute we can get! We plan to eat a big breakfast and skip lunch, so we may go on down towards deck "0" BEFORE even getting near Key West. :D When we sailed they were very specific about only letting people who had shore excursion tickets get in line early. Several announcements were made about this and according to crew that I became friendly with the problem with the line occurs because people go down before the call. Staff stopped everyone and looked at tickets. Thos that did ot have them would be sent back up hence the long lines on the stiars as they try to get shore excursion people off. Perhaps we were lucky but we walked down at 1:00PM. Just a couple of people in front of us to get off the ship and a trolley (2 actually) pulled up within 60 seconds and we were off towards our "pub crawl" :) I suppose it varies some from week to week. CruisingCathy Posted March 8, 2006 #37 Share Posted March 8, 2006 Firsttimespaz.... You can certainly stow away! Meet me at the airport Friday morning!! I hear ya about alot of Pittsburgh people on the Glory. We also saw alot of Steeler stuff when we sailed last Oct. But then again the "Steeler Nation"... goes far and wide. :) I work with a girl that is cruising the Glory the week after me. It is an "oldies" cruise with the local band...Johnny Angle and the Halos. I sure hope the transportation problems in Key West has been fixed! Thanks for this information. Normally, shore excursion passengers have to meet up in the theater or lounge. Perhaps this was the reason for the long lines that the OP spoke of. Once the shore excursion is called, many people get off at one time. We can always give it a try and then if it doesn't work, we can wait until 1:00.;)

firsttimespaz Posted March 8, 2006 #40 Share Posted March 8, 2006 Cathy, just make sure you cut some breathing holes in your suitcase! I am jealous that you are going this Friday. I would love to go back. I was just looking at pictures and thinking....."A week ago right now, I was sitting on a beach in Costa Maya" As for the Casino, I would say it was okay. But then again, this was the first Casino that I had been in. The penny slots were always packed. The only chance I had to get on them was in the afternoon on a day at sea. I can highly recommend the chocolate covered strawberries from Creams. They were about $3.00 for 5 of them and it was a nice treat in the evening! Can't wait to get them tomorrow as this will be our first cruise on Carnival since 1999 (Sensation). With all of the buzz about her, I would love to go back. Have been looking at the comments about different lines & we have been on Carnival, HAL, RCL, etc -- came to believe it is the ship & not the line. Back to your voyage --I am excited for you!!! Have a great time. The kids are going to have a blast. WIsh I could have gone with my guys, but soon enough.:D (ps - My kids are older-they learned a long time ago, you pack it, you wear it, you forget it, oh well-Dad also reminds them cause he gets the tags done. We have a routine, looks funny - everyone out, empty trunk, I pay the porter & Dad parks the car(toyota corolla with 5 adults:eek: ) -- that is the longest wait.)
