next flight is 12:37pm but from reading the threads in your link, i could put myself on standby for 9:40am flight when i get to airport.

 

if so, how do i put myself on standby list?

and is there an additional cost?

 

hm.. i could also do 10:30am to La Guardia and still put myself on standby for 9:40am flight?

Flying standby procedures vary by airline. Some will charge $75 for a confirmed earlier flight but will charge $0 if you do standby. But this typically can only be done day of flight or within 24 hours of your scheduled flight. Also, if you bought a Basic Economy fare on some airlines, not changes including standby are allowed. So you really need to contact your airline to find out their rules on changes.
