Can I leave the ship after boarding on Day 1?

I've searched EVERYWHERE, and I haven't been able to find the answer to this question.  I have bulky carryon bags (computers, etc.) that I don't want to drag around Rio (for obvious reasons).  I'd like to check in and leave them in my cabin and then go see a nearby museum.  I'm not comfortable leaving them with the porters because the bags will have jewelry, medication, etc.  Does anyone know if this is permitted?  Ship doesn't depart until 10pm. (Ship is the Infinity departing on 12/12/22.)

Its probably dependent on the port and the immigration policy. . We have done it several times, in Honolulu, Barcelona, and Amsterdam. With a 10pm sailing time, boarding may not start until sometime in the aftetnoon.

Years ago, I did this in Ft Lauderdale and in San Juan. 

 

Hopefully, someone with recent experience will chime in.

Our boarding time is 1:30pm.  (It starts as early as noon, but we have a private half-day tour in the morning.)

You may need to check with Celebrity.  It used to be ok to check in, leave your belongings and go back out.  Then more recently not the case.  You board and you couldn’t get back off.  The restrictions have been easing but what the rules were 2 or 3 months ago may be entirely different next week.

We weren’t allowed to do this in Sydney and Vancouver. I think US citizens were allowed to in Vancouver. We had gone through US immigration at Vancouver port.
