strobellayjam Posted December 8, 2022 #1 Share Posted December 8, 2022 We will be in Barbados (our first time!) on Christmas Day. I presume the shops will be closed so looking for suggestions on what we could do. We are a family of 6, travelling with my parents who are in their 70s and my DD ages 9 and 12. We usually head to a beach or do an island tour when in port. Is there anything within walking distance from the cruise port?

Outside the gates, within walking distance, are a few shops, but possibly closed. 20/25 minute walk away for the able bodied is a beach with beds for rent, which may be open, just follow the herds. $5 pp in a cab e/w. Or, for that special day, ask if they are taking bookings https://www.elegancebarbados.com/sailing-excursions-in-barbados/ Edited December 8, 2022 by PORT ROYAL

Fred&Lily Posted December 11, 2022 #8 Share Posted December 11, 2022 Carlisle Bay is the best option any day of the year. Come out of the terminal and ignore all the tour offers. Walk a few hundred yards north, turn right - to the east and cross a bridge. Keep heading east until you see Lobster Alive ads and lots of white sand, cut through anywhere to the beach. If you're lucky, you'll see a blue and white hobby cat and a fellow named Peter looking to take people for a short sail about. Peter does harvest work in Canada most years (just tell him you're a Canadian) so he's very agreeable to negotiating special sail out to the turtles or to go snorkeling. He usually has a net bag for your personal stuff which he ties to the mast to keep it all dry.
