H0kie76 Posted January 6, 2023 #1 Share Posted January 6, 2023 We have booked our first Viking Cruise. Venice, the Adriatic & Greece August 18, 2023. We booked a PV2 Penthouse Veranda, but didn't get assigned a room number. The booking says GTY. The booking says we many not find out our room until just before the trip. Does anyone know what normally happens? Right now there is very low availabiliy in PV2 & PV3, but more in PV1 according to the Viking Site. Selion Posted January 6, 2023 #2 Share Posted January 6, 2023 "Guaranteed" cabin in the cruise industry means you are guaranteed a cabin at the category you booked, or in any of the higher categories (free upgrade!). You will not be assigned a cabin in a cabin category lower than what you paid for (in your case, any DV or V cabins). Cabin assignment usually take place anywhere between 30 days to a few days out. It depends on the cruise line's revenue management system and if there are enough people taking upgrade offers to free up overbooked categories. Rare OneSixtyToOne Posted January 6, 2023 #3 Share Posted January 6, 2023 (edited) Worth noting that Venice, the Adriatic & Greece might be a leg of a longer cruise, Ancient Adriatic Treasures. (Viking Sky departs Venice on Aug 18, 2023). If that is the case they are probably waiting to fill the longer cruise first. If that fills up for your class of room, they will probably upgrade you.... or not. They might also upgrade the longer leg pax. I was curious and just tried booking Ancient Adriatic Treasures and only PV1 are available in the PV category Edited January 6, 2023 by OneSixtyToOne

Your cabin is assigned at the discretion of the cruise line, depending on their booking and cancellations. I have seen cabin assignments 6-months ahead, but have also experienced getting a cabin number at check-in.
Twitchly Posted January 7, 2023 #5 Share Posted January 7, 2023 We’ve had 2 GTY PV rooms. The first one got assigned within just a few days of booking, nearly a year before sailing. The other was assigned a couple months before we sailed.
H0kie76 Posted January 7, 2023 Author #6 Share Posted January 7, 2023 Thanks all. I'm not too worried since the PV2 are all in a good section of the Viking Sky!
