Alaska - Would I miss anything by not booking excursions?

You need to budget for and do excursions. Otherwise, you will see the same stores you see in the Caribbean. The best part of Alaska IMO - is getting out of the port towns.

 

Otherwise, don't spend your money and go to Alaska. It will be waisted money.
