turtlemichael Posted January 11, 2023 #3 Share Posted January 11, 2023 Yes, I'm on board but not doing a blog. There are not enough hours in the day and the internet connection is shite! However, I'm happy to answer any questions.
Rare drron29 Posted January 11, 2023 #4 Share Posted January 11, 2023 Have a great cruise turtlemichael. We will possibly get to meet those who are on the next world cruise. It is calling in at Mooloolaba which is close to our home but we will also be in Bali the day it arrives there.

Rare Silver Spectre Posted January 23, 2023 #6 Share Posted January 23, 2023 World Cruise news flash, entertainment goes ‘Back to the Future’ with the introduction of the Silversea Ensemble on the Shadow. Three male and three female dancers and two vocalists with a 4 piece live band. So no more crappy backing tracks and welcome to an updated version of what Jean Ann Ryan was doing all those years ago before the Artists came along. 1

cruiseej Posted January 24, 2023 #9 Share Posted January 24, 2023 I'm delighted at the live musicians. A 4-piece band is smaller than what Seabourn uses, but is nonetheless a big step forward from pre-recorded backing tracks. I'm a little surprised by the mix of 2 singers and 6 dancers though; I would have thought they'd have more singers to be the stars of the show. Rare drron29 Posted January 24, 2023 #10 Share Posted January 24, 2023 I think you will find that at least some of the dancers can sing. One of our grandaughters was on RCL ships as a dancer. But her training including singing lessons. So when one of the singers actually did break a leg she stepped into the role. She now is land based and principal singer at a casino. So must have been OK.

Okay, that's being a backup or understudy singer. 😉 But these carefully constructed ship shows are apparently built around 2 singers and 6 dancers. On Seabourn, for contrast, the troupe is 4 singers who also do some choreography, and a couple who are ballet/ballroom dancers who perform on some of the numbers. With 4 singers, they can move between solo songs, a couple, 2 men or 2 women, and all 4; it's pretty versatile for plugging into different songs. The new two-singer SS format just seemed a little more limited to me. I'm not saying it's bad or wrong; I was just a little surprised with the emphasis on a troupe of 6 dancers more than the vocalists.
turtlemichael Posted January 26, 2023 #12 Share Posted January 26, 2023 One other new thing on the current World Cruise is an alteration to the restaurant arrangement. If this has already been mentioned, I apologise. As of our departure from Auckland on the second segment two days ago, La Dame on Silver Shadow now only operates as traditional La Dame on Saturdays and Sundays. For the rest of the cruise until May 28 on the other 5 nights of the week it will operate like a mini-SALT with a different regional theme each week or so. It's being called South Side Story Flavors. The first theme is New Zealand and they have listed quite a few others for the coming weeks. The menu consists of two starters, two main courses and two desserts and that stays the same for the period of the theme. La Dame has been very poorly patronised on the first segment of the cruise. Someone suggested that the reason was that the desire to get in a La Dame evening was not so urgent when you have another 18 weeks of the cruise to go. The first reports have been good and, if anyone is interested, I'll add a note after our first meal there tonight. There is no add-on charge. David Bilsland is on board and has been doing most of the planning as far as I can see. Silversea seems determined to not equate it with the SALT concept on the bigger ships. 7

The restaurant was about half full - 22 pax. It was a good meal. Excellent roast lamb and venison carpaccio. We'll go again for the variation. 2

turtlemichael Posted January 27, 2023 #19 Share Posted January 27, 2023 (edited) There are positives on this world cruise but there are also some negatives when I compare with our experience in 2019. First, if you have a computer/internet issue, there is now no direct access to an officer who may know how to fix it. I recall regular times that officer was available each day to deal with and assist guests. Now you go to Reception who may or may not know how to fix it. They act as a filter. Second, if you have a financial issue, as we do, the same applies. You explain it to Reception person who, in my case, spent 10 minutes trying to justify the situation and, in the end could see the issue and will apparently speak to the finance person. I'm waiting for someone to come back. These changes are probably to save staff time in dealing with issues but they add to the frustration. Stumblefoot Posted January 27, 2023 #20 Share Posted January 27, 2023 Sure do appreciate your posts from the World Cruise, turtlemichael. IMO, I don’t like personnel filters because they waste the customer’s time thereby causing further frustration.
