Haven't cruised in almost 15 years -- will I be disappointed?

Certainly is a generalization, but it's also fairly accurate.  We didn't have working plumbing in our room on the Valor for 2 days, half the gym was closed, and much of the food service equipment appeared to be malfunctioning.  Reviews have been all over this board of many of the older Conquest class ships (and the Sunshined ships) being in various states of disrepair.

All the while it seems like the Vista and Mardi Gras class ships have had excellent trip reviews.  Are there exceptions?  Sure.  Would I risk my vacation dollars on that?  Nope.

Just got off of Legend and found it in fine shape.

Since the restart, I've been on Valor, Dream, Miracle, Horizon, Radiance, Sunrise (multiple), Pride (multiple).  All were fine. Not perfect mind you, but absolutely fine. I've also had minor cabin issues a couple times that were always fully addressed the same day.

I suppose I could have walked the ships and posted pics of the handful of flaws as others have done. Decided to enjoy myself instead. Never once saw anything I considered unsafe or not properly secured for later repair.

exactly, and same here. That’s why I said it is a generalization.

This made me think back to my first cruise on Carnival.  Things have changed so much.  No band in the stage shows.  The girls in the stage shows aren't dressed in super skimpy attire anymore.  No nude sundeck.  Lots more CDs and less real entertainers.

But on the upside, we now have much more food choices, fun choices, and the electronic improvements have made huge increases in QoL (including the virtual muster).

I think I much prefer the new Carnival.

I have to know: Which cruise ship had fights on it that were so bad that it to be escorted by the coast guard back to port?   I somehow missed this.

I knew of one instance where there was a sexual assault on board and they returned to port and took the perpetrator off, but I had not heard about returning to port due to fights on board. Brawling on board somewhat goes to age/demographic of passengers (i.e. I have never seen senior citizens get in a physical altercation), but SA doesn't really follow those same lines.  I used to work at a DV/Sexual Assault non-profit many years ago and we had victims in their 70s/80s (even of stranger sexual assault--in fact, sometimes elderly women living alone are specifically targeted) and perps of all ages because sexual assault isn't really about sex, but power.  Point being: Sexual assault could occur on a more expensive line as easily as it could on Carnival.

Not meaning to bring a funny conversation down or anything...

Commenting late, but I know Carnival takes things seriously. Pre-covid first day on board a guy was very drunk and slapped a girls behind during the lido deck going away party... and he was in the brig for almost the rest of the cruise.

2 days without working plumbing is a major deal to me. That is not a vacation I will be paying for. If I wanted to rough it, I would go tent camping. Even most camping places have working plumbing.

I remember seeing many "old Carnie rust buckets," which were ships for the early 90's.  Recently, most seem much better from the outside, oddly I recently say Enchantment of the Seas, with outside rust, something I've never seen before on a Royal ship.  I think Carnival would greatly inhanse their reputation, with more paint touchups of exterior rusting!
