Alakegirl Posted January 29, 2023 #2 Share Posted January 29, 2023 (edited) Without knowing what ports you are interested in it’s pretty hard to give advice about the excursions Edited January 29, 2023 by Alakegirl

rucruisn2 Posted January 30, 2023 #4 Share Posted January 30, 2023 Some ports are by tender. If a port you want is by tender, you will not be able to get off the ship. You have to be able to walk and do steps. I am confined to a scooter and could not get off the ship in some ports.

Are there any major obstacles particularly on excursions? None of X's regular excursions are what we would call "wheel chair friendly". All the tours rely on you being accompanied by an able bodied person to assist you i. e. no assistance is provided at any point by X. If part of the tour is on foot accompanied by a guide you are just expected to keep up. The buses used have no lifts or ramps. X does occassionally offer special excursions using vehicles with lifts or ramps but there trend to be very expensive and require a minimum number of participants. Although my wife doesn't use a wheelchair she does use a folding 4 wheeled walker and we find the best solution is to book with a private guide who provides assistance. Our company of choice is Toursbylocals but be aware that you will need to book early. We try for a vehicle that holds 6 to 8 passengers and then share with one other couple. Also be prepared for a little "laterally thinking". For example to do Rome as a group of 4 including 1 wheelchair we booked a taxi from Citavecchia to Rome and back. Once in Rome we switched to a guide with a 6 seat golf cart (the back seat converted to a platform for the wheelchair) which was perfect. Good luck.
