Administration fee

I had to rebook a cruise different date different ship. Used the diamond desk to do this which I have done in the past. was real easy and no problem.This time was charged $100. Admin fee? Is this something new?

There is a standard fee of $50 pp for a rebooking, assuming you aren't in the non-refundable part of your timeline.

 

Carnival may have waived that in the past (I got it waived once), but they don't have to, and I guess they are starting to clamp down.

I think there are usually certain fare classes where there is no admin fee to change, but those fares are usually more than just $50 pp higher than the cheapest, so not really a deal unless you are likely change plans a lot.

 

e.g. for a random cruise I just started to mock-book:
 

Early Saver (the cheapest) has this condition:

 

All cancellations that occur prior to the final payment due date will receive a non-refundable and non-transferable future cruise credit in US dollars for the amount of the deposit, less a $50pp service fee. 

 

Whereas New Year Savings Sale says:

 

Change fees are not assessed outside of the final payment window. 

 

For a two-person cabin, the latter is $80 more, but also forgoes a $50 OBC (per cabin), so net $130 difference in overall "price".  You also pay a lower deposit on the former, which many people (like me) like.

 

Oh, and there is another rate category which is over $500 pp higher than the base rate, with no further benefits AFAICT.  Yeah, no.

Yes, we have had that fee waived a lot in years past ($50/pp change fee), but they have started clamping down and don't do it like they used to.

 

I had to pay it once recently, and then got it waived once too still (in last 4 months or so, made 2 changes)
