Santorini to Oia by Boat

 I am trying to find information/confirmation on the ferry from Santorini to Oia … scheduling, cots etc. as I read somewhere that there is a ferry and it only goes from Santorini to Oia and not from Oia back to Santorini?

We (4 of us) are arriving on the Enchanted Princess on May 21^st and instead of waiting in the probable long lines to go up the cable car and find the bus to Oia that we would take a boat to Oia and then either do the 3 hour walk back to Fira or bus it back … depending on our timing.

Santorini is the island. Oia is a town. Yes, the ferry only takes you from the old port of Fira (cable car port) to the port for Oia. Why? They are splitting the income opportunity with the cable car people. Boat one way, cable car back.

And there is no 'schedule'.  The boat sits there until it's full.

When I was there at the end of Sept, it sat at the dock for an hour.

 

If you don't want to walk or bus to Oia from Fira, consider a taxi .

It is important to understand that those boats (from Fira to Oia) are privately owned/operated and not a true public conveyance.  The operators do as they please which means they can keep you waiting for some time (until they are full or have enough passengers) or they can even cancel their run if they do not get enough folks.  We have been known to stand on the dock and tell the operator we will pay and step into the boat "when they are ready to leave."
