What would you pay additional for an a cruise?

Smokers do develop a chip because we are considered killers of everyone else. But everyone drives a cancer causing vehicle, lives near a nuclear power plant, or eats the pesticides on their fruits and vegetables, but when they get cancer, they blame the smokers.

That doesn't make your post any more appropriate. Can't you just admit your "resentment" and "prejudice" statements were uncalled for?

I would LOVE to have a smoke free cruise.Or at least inforce their policy. On my cruise in Feb,I couldnt enjoy my balcony because of all the smokers. They had the doors between their balcony open, and seemed to be out there all of the time.I would have loved to keep my door open at night, but they stayed out all night smoking. I'm very sorry to hear about your condition and your sister's death caused by second hand smoke.

I don't think smokers understand that it is fear that non-smokers feel when they are forced to be in a room with a lot of smokers. We lost 2 friends from lung cancer in the last 3 months. One of them was stubborn until the day he died. He had mouth, throat and lung cancer and insisted the doctor told him it was not from smoking in any way shape or form. Of course his wife told another story.

HurricaneSally, if you are reading this please don't resent the non-smokers for not wanting people to smoke where they live work or socialize. Look what has just happened to Dana Reeve. She died at 43 or 44 from lung cancer and never smoked. She left behind a 13 year old with no father. It's fear we have. I avoid smoke as much as possible for my health, not because I think it's a bad or dirty habit (as I've been accused of by friends). When I explained it to those people they saw where I was coming from.

Don't take offence, just try and understand how we feel.

I smoked for 18 years, started when I was 12. I was one of those "It's my right!" smokers who kept on smoking no matter how fast you waved your hand in my direction in the line at McDonald's! Then I tried to quit, realizing it was NOT in my best interest to keep smoking. It took me more than a year of seriously trying to quit before I was successful. It was one of the hardest things I've ever done. But now that I have been a non-smoker, not a reformed smoker or someone who quit smoking...I am a NON-SMOKER, for over 11 years, I feel I have the right to ask people NOT to smoke near me, especially in common areas. There is not a smoker in the world who is not aware of the dangers of smoking and second-hand smoke. If you want to smoke regardless of that fact I give you that right, but I do NOT give you the right to endanger MY health when you do it! I understand there are smoking areas in the world, after all I live in Vegas and work in a casino! But I also understand I have the right to not excuse you from coming into the non-smoking areas of the world. And if you are in a smoking area and your smoke drifts into my non-smoking area I feel I have the right to ask you to kindly put your cigarette out or move to another area.

We are no longer in the '50's, '60's or even '70's when smoking was cool and we didn't know the consequences. We know them. And to KNOWINGLY subject people to the harmful effect of that smoke is not only rude but morally reprehensible and on the verge of physical and mental abuse!

So, please, respect the person who does NOT choose to breath your smoke and either move or put the cigarette out. If you say it's your CHOICE to smoke you are right....and it's our CHOICE to not have to breath your waste! If you say it's your RIGHT I'll be looking for that in the Bill of Rights and the Constitution, but I'm pretty sure I won't find it there.

Sorry, if smokers were "silent killers" like the comparisons you listed then you wouldn't get many complaints. It's when you blow smoke in my face, that really gets my attention. If it wasn't for the coughing, choking, and inability to breath then I would have no problem with you smoking in the public areas of the ship.

By the way, what is a "cancer causing vehicle"?...Is my car slowly killing me too?

I like Hold-Em but I am not sure I would want to get into a long tournament on a cruise. I would not want to miss the other stuff to do that.

I'd like to watch a tournament of Hold'em, but I won't pay that much to see it.

I would how ever pay extra if they would make the speciality dinning room menu available for the room. For a romantic dinner in your room or on your balcony. I would even pay more than the price they are asking at the restaurant. This would have to be booked in advance, and the menu choosen so that they could plan this and it would be profitable for the cruise line or they would never do it.

But not everyone has asthma! That's my main problem and it really is uncomfortable even outside when someone is smoking.

Well said Sakedad! I lost my Dad to cancer. He had to breathe through a tube in his throat due to his cancer from smoking. After they put the tube in he tried to smoke but it went in his mouth and out the tube...he quit then! My Mom still smokes to this day and that has been over 20 years ago! Of four kids I am the only one that did not pick up the habit. Please think of what you are exposing everyone to. As much as I hate it when I take my Mom in my car she still smokes but I love her and understand the addiction she has to cigarettes. I have to air out my car and immediately wash my clothes and take a shower to get that nasty smell off of me.

RevSmith, what a great idea! Specialty dining in your own room, a lovely dinner (cooked to order!) on your balcony.

As far as the smoking debate goes, neither side ever "wins". I stopped smoking almost 18 years ago, after a 20 year habit and it took me almost 2 years to figure out how horrible it really made me feel. Probably because none of our friends and only one family member smoked at the time and the effects wear off gradually. I found out just how bad it was on a trip to Vegas, walking to our room, we had to pass through the casino. By the time we got to our "non-smoking" room, I had a sore throat and felt my sinuses inflating. I remembered then that is how I used to feel as a smoker and could not believe the huge difference.

Of course I get that horrid feeling now whenever I'm around cigarette smoke. But, I do remember how I felt so outcast when I still smoked and I don't care to make others feel that way. Believe me when I say it is not an exaggeration, nor am I trying to be rude when I plug my nose or wave my hand in front of my face when I come across your smoke. I'm just trying to not get that sick feeling, it can take a day or two to go away.

A question for the smokers, do you really want to make other people feel sick? Would you like it if the person standing next to you was doing something that would make you sick for a day or two?

We cruised a couple years ago with a friend who still smoked, she used a mint called Commit (sp) to curb her habit during the cruise, so she could be with all of us (group of 15). She would go up on deck at night, to a smoking area to have her fix.

I'm hoping that I've taught my children well enough to never try it, not even once. When we see a teenager smoking, I tell them how sorry I am to see it and how horrible life will be for them, being unaccepted in so many public areas.

Take smoking away totally.... let them only smoke outside on one deck. This would be wonderful. Too many people are allergic or sick because of second hand smoke, Look at the news this past week. Dana Reeve never smoked a day in her life. Lung cancer is horrid way to go, and we non smokers should never have to be in a room with your smoke. We never go into the casino and play due to this. Maybe they should have 2 casinos.

Although RCCL does do better than CCL with non smoking area.

I'd pay extra for a kid free cruise, with more non-smoking areas and more days at sea.

My inlaws just came back from a cruise on Celebrity. They commented that in over 2000 passangers there was only 17 children. Why do people who do not want kids on a cruise choose Royal Caribbean which encourages family cruises. There are many other cruise lines such as Celebrity which do not cator to children.

I'm really tired of people complaining about kids on Royal Caribbean cruiseships.

Good Point!! I will poke fun about the diapers in the pool issue, but you are right about RCCL being a family cruise line. There are so many people cruising nowadays and with that you are gonna have well behaved and unbehaved kids just like adults as well.

I'm with you on that note. There are cruise lines out there that are more upscale and cater less to kids. Why not use them? I love the family atmosphere and the kids.

By the way, as a smoker, I resent you wanting all cruise ships to be nonsmoking, just so you are happy. We can all live together without your prejudice.

I would pay extra to sit on a floor of the restaurant where families with kids aren't allowed.

I resent the fact that you want your own resturant so YOU can be happy.Talk about prejudice.Kids may be annoying but you won't die from lung cancer standing next to them.

I would pay extra for going on a cruise without complainers. Just people looking to have a good time and get along. So when is the next party and fruity drink?

POST OF THE MONTH! I would pay anything to not be with all of them either.
