Seahorse Lover Posted March 2, 2023 #1 Share Posted March 2, 2023 We will be on a Western Mediterranean cruise in June with our Son, DIL and 14 & 12 year old Grandsons. Can anyone recommend especially interesting shore excursions/activities/private guides for the port of Naples on a Friday and La Spezia on a Wednesday? Also, we will be staying in Rome for a few days pre and post cruise. Activities/Private Guides and hotel recommendations would be most appreciated. Thank you! edinburgher Posted March 2, 2023 #2 Share Posted March 2, 2023 (edited) Try internet searching something like "Naples for teens" as something to interest to them might be among the results Otherwise consider Pompeii or Herculaneum or climb Vesuvius, the active volcano. (Herculaneum and Vesuvius are doable in one day as the arrival train station is the same for both) If Vesuvius clear in the morning go there first. If cloudy go to Herculaneum first in the hope the cloud will clear on Vesuvius after you finish in Herculaneum.. Have them read about these amazing sights before travel. Eat pizza in the city where it was created. Visit "Christmas Street". Edited March 2, 2023 by edinburgher
Rare cruisemom42 Posted March 3, 2023 #3 Share Posted March 3, 2023 Rome ideas: Gladiator school: https://www.romegladiatorschool.com/gladiator-school. (Pair it with a visit to the Colosseum.) Biking on the Appian Way: https://www.earthtrekkers.com/biking-appian-way-rome/. (Can be done on your own or via a tour -- best time is Sundays when motorized vehicles are not allowed.) If they like slightly spooky things: Capuchin crypt (bone chapel): https://romesite.com/capuchin-crypt.html
PurpleTraveller Posted March 3, 2023 #4 Share Posted March 3, 2023 (edited) In Naples they might like the Naples Underground Tour. It is walking distance from the cruise dock, inexpensive and fun. We had a great time doing the tour. Afterwards you could then have pizza for lunch. https://www.napolisotterranea.org/en/ Edited March 3, 2023 by PurpleTraveller
