Getting from the port to Rome

What is the best way to get from the port to our hotel in central Rome?   We are spending three days in Rome post-cruise.

Some suggest the "best" way is by paying one of the many private transfer companies frequently discussed in posts in this forum.  They will pick you up at the ship and take you to your hotel in a private car.  That personal service comes at a price.

 

Others suggest taking shuttle busses from the ship to the train station and then taking a train into the city and then a taxi to your hotel is going to be less expensive.

 

What is your definition of "best"?
