Seattle departures and Canadian customs

Am considering some HAL Alaska cruises, RT from Seattle.  Since those cruises depart and arrive from Seattle, do they bypass Canadian immigration/customs entirely, or do we have a "meet and greet" with Canadian officials during one of the cruise stops?

Thanks

This is the NCL board, but I assume the answer is the same.

We did NCL Alaska RT from Seattle in October; there was no Canadian interaction except for when we got off the ship in Canada for the short stop one evening ... and it was just like any other port - off and on you go, nothing different or special because it was Canada.

Maybe ask over on the HAL board.

If you were on an NCL cruise R/T Seattle, you would have to complete a Canadian customs declaration during your cruise. In Victoria, there is normally no interaction with Canadian customs, but Canadian officers are there in the terminal. Remember that if you have any felony convictions (e.g., DUI), you will be denied entry into Canada.

What a great reminder! Thankfully no convictions here...but I always forget about this!

Not sure how tightly they look at cruisers, but also make sure you don't carry any mace or pepper spray.  (Not sure if the cruise lines let you have it anyway, but....)

Sometimes they will allow you to pay money and they will allow you in to Canada.  Guess it's some sort of bond or something similar.  Used to go up to Canada with some co-workers every year for a hockey game.  About the 5th year we did it they had us pull over at customs and check our luggage and ID's.  One of the guys that had done the trip every year had a DUI with property destruction years ago when he was young.  He had to pay $800 and they allowed him in the country.  But they could have very easily denied entry so it's not something you want to count on.  I know he's been allowed back in as we did the trip for a few more years after and he also did a family trip.
