serene56 Posted May 29, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 29, 2004 Have you checked the port of calls board located on the main screen of cruise critics? They have some great ideas for excursions and probably a lot cheaper then what the ship is offering. HOSKI Posted May 29, 2004 #4 Share Posted May 29, 2004 In Belize book something on your own. If you do not take a tour there is not much to do. I booked the ruins thru www.***** Snorkeling is suppose to be great here but didn't get to try it. Costa Maya, I would take a taxi to the little town and enjoy the beach, food and shopping. Joan in Jersey Posted May 30, 2004 #5 Share Posted May 30, 2004 It is supposed to be the second best place in the world to snorkel. On the ship we were told when you leave the dock, all there is out there is a dirt road. It's not developed for tourism yet. We stayed on the ship which we love to do on some port days. TerriDHair Posted May 30, 2004 #7 Share Posted May 30, 2004 We didn't know what to do in Belizie, either and my 1st choice was the shark-ray alley tour but it was filled by the time I booked our excursion. So we "settled" for cave tubing through "X-treme" and it was wonderful! twojt Posted May 30, 2004 #10 Share Posted May 30, 2004 Last November we were in belize and used a private driver. He was wonderful--took us all over for the day and was able to show us loads of stuff that the "tourists" would never see. We were very safe and comfortable with him. We still keep in touch and in fact we booked again this November and he is taking over to a private island. If you would like his information please feel free to ask. I have also recommended him to many other cruisers and they came back stating how much they loved him. He would take to cave tubing, zoo, ruins etc. Have funn in Belize--I cannot wait to go back! cruising3times Posted May 31, 2004 #16 Share Posted May 31, 2004 Here are some details about the baboon sanctuary, the baboons are actually howler monkeys and the tour does require walking, wear old shoes with socks and bug repellent would be useful. The ride as I recall was about an hour so you got a bus tour of Belize too. I am thinking we paid somewhere around thirty five dollars per person , it was a ship tour but this was about a year and a half ago on the Pride. Four of us went and we all enjoyed it,w e also learned about the vegetation, our kids were 14 and 19 at the time. lesliew Posted May 31, 2004 #17 Share Posted May 31, 2004 Can't say enough good things about Reggie's Cave Tubing. He is Great. It is a private tour, but he is well aware of the importance of being back to the Ship on time. You will save big bucks over cost of the ship's excursions. I am sure your teens will really enjoy. There is a hike through the jungle to get to the beginning of the river, so you must be able to do that. mrsneurotic Posted June 1, 2004 #21 Share Posted June 1, 2004 My husband and daughter snorkeled at Goff's Caye through Carnival...they said it was "pretty good". My son and I went to Xunantunich ruins, also through Carnival, we LOVED it. The tour guides were great, the scenery beautiful, and the ruins were on top of a mountain with a superb view. Lunch was Belizean fare at a local hotel...very good. This is an undeveloped country, commercially, but they have the most beautiful country, naturally. I would do a ship's excursion here r/t tendering on and off ship, etc.
Snowball Posted June 1, 2004 #22 Share Posted June 1, 2004 I am really looking forward to visiting Belize during my Valor cruise. I am torn between the X-stream cave tubing, or going to Caulkers Cay. I'm leaning towards the cave tubing, because that sounds like a really neat experience and is something that you can't do on any other port. I am getting my underwater camera developed this week. ABsolutly beautiful coral reef tons of beautiful fish and sting rays and so much fun. They take u off the ship in a speed boat and then after an hour long ride you arrive at the snorkel stop and then they take you to San Pedro for lunch. SO much fun.... Till We leave for Florida. CedarHouseRanch Posted June 3, 2004 #25 Share Posted June 3, 2004 Just returned from 5/23/04 Elation. Took the X-stream cave tubing trip. It was the best shore excursion I've ever been on. Thomas was great. Don't worry about getting on an early tender. Just meet with the other cave tubers from the ship and get on a tender with them. They don't check tickets until after you get on shore and go to the bus. So when you get to Belize, just split from the group. On the Elation the cave tubers meet at 7:45 in the Mikado.
