check-in time slot question(s)?

I just checked in for our upcoming trip. I had to choose a check-in time slot. Is this something relatively new.?

Earliest available was 12-1230 pm, which is ok.

How likely are we to actually get thru check- in our time slot? 

What happens if we arrive a little early? Or late?

Nothing.  You join the line.  Have not had anyone actually check to see if I was early.  Obviously late not an issue.  By 1pm no lines at all.

Time slots have been in effect for a while in an attempt to stop lines of a few thousand trying to checkin at the same time.

What is the latest time you can check in, approximately?  Want to see Sagrada Familia in Barcelona in the morning if possible.
