You can withdraw to the limit of your ATM card. One of my ATM cards has a $1000 limit with no bank charge, so, should I choose, I can get $1K for $7 versus $30 on a room charge. 

 

My most expensive ATM card charges $1 per out-of-network transaction. Never ever seen a bank that charges $6 for an ATM transaction.

doesn't make much sense to me, but that's how they do it.

They are eating their the credit card service charge that they get for the charge.

I recently withdrew $600 from an ATM on Spirit.  The local ATM charged $6.99. My bank charged nothing.  If I charged it to my room it would have been $18.
