Rare Scottishclover Posted April 8, 2023 #1 Share Posted April 8, 2023 We are doing a med cruise in the summer and think we might be a bit tired of ruins/ art/ culture by the time we get to Naples near the end of our cruise. We are thinking of catching the ferry to the island of Procida. Wondering if anyone has experience of doing this and if they would recommend it? lisaatric Posted April 9, 2023 #2 Share Posted April 9, 2023 I would forgo other ruins/art/culture along the way and go to Pompeii from Naples. It was the highlight of the whole Med trip for me.
euro cruiser Posted April 9, 2023 #3 Share Posted April 9, 2023 Procida is lovely and very easy to reach from the cruise port. If you haven't yet seen Il Postino, do see that before you go. It is set on the island and much of it was filmed there.
Rare cruisemom42 Posted April 9, 2023 #4 Share Posted April 9, 2023 I found it boring, but I like ruins, art and culture.
Rare Scottishclover Posted April 9, 2023 Author #5 Share Posted April 9, 2023 Thanks for the quick replies. I understand what you mean about Pompeii but from Scotland we could easily go to Naples another time and do Pompeii. Should have mentioned we have 2 teens in tow who may have reached their limit for sights by the time we hit Naples. We are spending 4 nights in Lucca and 4 in Rome before the cruise too. I just thought that Procida might work to change things up a bit and perhaps escape some of the crowds.
euro cruiser Posted April 9, 2023 #6 Share Posted April 9, 2023 Maybe watch Il Postino with your kids and let them see if they can find the locations in the film once on the island. The Postman (Il Postino) movie review (1995) | Roger Ebert
