Debark in Hellesylt or Geiranger?

Recommended Posts

I’m booked for a Norway cruise that pulls into Hellesylt in the morning for a few hours to debark folks for shore excursions, and then is moving to Geiranger with arrival at noon. Departure from Geiranger is 7 PM.  Any advice on if it’s better to debark at Hellesylt and do a shore excursion from there or ride the ship into Geiranger to see the fjords in the morning and then do a shore excursion from Geiranger?  Thank you!

Welcome to Cruise Critic.

Hellesylt is a technical stop and many cruise lines only allow guests with the ship's excursions to disembark here. You need to check.

I have no experience with Hellesylt, but it is a very small ferry port with 250 residents. It is possible to take a ferry from Hellesylt to Geiranger. There are much greater possibilities for individual excursions in Geiranger.

Since there are cruises that stop in Hellesylt and do not sail the last stretch to Geiranger, I would think that there is someone there who can give a better answer regarding options in Hellesylt.
