Sky Princess for next year

Pros: First of the "newer" design ships (Sky/Enchanted/Discovery), still in good condition

Cons: Giant photo gallery that soaks up public space in the Piazza, small Good Spirits at Sea, no Crooners

I know that sounds like a lot of cons, but we've found we like the Enchanted/Crown over the Sky (but cruising always beats a day on land)

8 of us are planning on cruising to the Caribbean next year, and if you have been on the Sky Princess over the past year, would you give me YOUR pros/cons of this ship?

I was on her in February and had a great time. Enjoyed the entertainment, the staff and everything on it. If there was 1 thing I would improve, it had nothing to do with the cruise itself, but with the actual ship. There isn't really indoor area where you can sit and enjoy the ocean, but that was it.

Now, that said, I was in a suite and I loved the concierge area, the separate dining and Sabatinis breakfast.

8 of us are planning on cruising to the Caribbean next year, and if you have been on the Sky Princess over the past year, would you give me YOUR pros/cons of this ship?

Pros

- Relatively new ship so everything is looking nice and not tired, it is unlikely that you will experience maintenance issues etc.

- Generally very good leisure amenities (size of gym, spa etc.)

- Very good selection of complementary dining venues (3 MDRs, Alfredos, IC, pool side grill, pool side pizza, buffet)

- Good size buffet area and outside seating

- Accommodation is good as everything is nice and new (although balconies are small and I didn’t find the bed that comfy but that is personal preference)

- Adult only pool area on two levels meaning the lower level has a little more shelter than other Royal class ships

- Back pool and lounge area which other Royal class ships do not have (I think is quite a big thing for a Caribbean itinerary because it will spread people out amongst pool areas)

- Good mini golf course (if this matters to you)

- Good selection of shops (if this matters to you)

Cons

- Even though a good selection of bars and lounges, there are just not enough or not enough larger lounges for the number of people or seats around the Piazza. There is no Crooners bar but instead a speciality dining space instead and whilst there is a relatively large aft lounge, there is no forward facing lounge on a top deck

- I went on a cold cruise on this ship but from memory there weren’t a huge number of outside bar areas which would be nice in the Caribbean

- Princess live has tub chairs and tables so less seating than other Royal class ships which means it’s hard to get into an event there

- No covered pool (probably not an issue for you in the Caribbean)

- Sanctuary is not as nice as other Princess ships and loungers not as comfy (only an issue if you plan to use this)

-  Promenade deck is small and does not go all the way around

- Theatre is small but I think this is a theme on Princess

- I didn’t find this an issue but people say the two Sky suites mean you cannot walk between pools easily compared to other ships

- No library or card room (if that matters to you)

- Smoking is allowed in the casino (not a con for us because we don’t use it and could be a pro if you are a smoker)

Thank you to ALL for this informative information on the Sky Princess, and we will take this information into consideration for deciding on which ship we will be doing next year.
